You guys are talking to the BAH HUMBUG queen here. Sorry it has just been one disaster after another except when the kids were little. I do like to light the street luminarias and cook all kinds of food but the gift thing is way too out of control for me.

I love the luminarias................but I don't shop until after Thanksgiving, can't stand to think of it right now. It is hard enough to practice singing and playing Christmas music when the weather was 90 today, and the sun calls to you to sit out and enjoy the rays...............................:-6

Besides, the kids will be gone this Christmas, so that is sad.....................

but i am jaded toward X-mas anyways. I am a Christmas baby. do you know what it is like not being able to have a birthday party with all your school buddies?

that and i have a cheap extended family. Every year for the past 26, i have gotten a Christmas card attached to a Birthday present. I am (mostly) over it now, but that used to erally upset me when i was in grade school.

Well, when you grow up and everyone says this is your X-mas and birthday present. You don't even give them BD presents during the year because they are Aunts, Uncles or cousins. Then - there is this left over pie or cake from X-Mas with a candle on it. NOT special. I do like X-Mas - just not the hype for presents for everyone. It should be about family and closeness. My family always fought about the quality of the presents ---SHAME, SHAME. I am not a religious person - I do not claim Jesus as my saviour on Earth so it all became about money and gifts.

tmbsgrl wrote: Oh NO that does NOT happen to our daughter! Christmas is something completely different than her Birthday! She celebrates Christmas on Christmas and her B-day on her B-day! That will never change.. We will never combine the 2. That is just wrong in so many ways! It would not be fair. We throw her a huge B-day celebration with all her friends and family. She has a blast! By then all decoration are down at least in that room we are all eating cake and opening gifts.. It will be decorated with Happy B-day and streamers. She has to worry about us combining the 2.. It will never happen. :D

good. i hope for her sake that you never do. you wouldn't want her to be jaded like me and Nvalley

This is the reason any X-Mas stuff comes down before my BD. Good for you - you have made it a special time for her - as it should be for kids. GOOD MOMMY! :-4

I really liked the idea of holding her party in a place that didn't have X-Mas decorations....that would have been special for me too. I doubt she will have bad memories of her BD because YOU have made it special - her day - her birthday...

My little brother's bday is new year's eve but I really have to hand it to

my mom, she ALWAYS made such a big deal of it and totally made it a

different day because she said she always felt bad for little kids who had

bdays around Christmas. She got separate bday gift wrap for his presents.

Big decorated cake from the bakery with all those little things on it like

cowboys or robots or whatever it was that year... really great I think he

grew up VERY well-adjusted as far as his bday goes. And since becoming

an adult of course it's great to have your bday on the biggest party day of

the year!!

I have heard of some people throwing bdays for their kids in August just so

it won't be near Christmas!!

You go, tmbsgrl, your daughter will grow up like my brother I bet!!
