My son recieved a different kind of birthday present
My eldest boy turned 22 last thursday. I got a call from Brisbane airport to say " we're catching a late flight I'll be there tommorow morning" ........From his father.
I rang my son to tell him that his father is coming down for his birthday. He's like " what now? today?"
So my sons birthday present was seeing his Mother and Father in the same place for the first time since he was 3 .
It was a good weekend. A bit weird but my son went home happy.

Better late than never - what prompted it?

His dad and I have been talking on the phone in the past couple of months and he did say he'll get down this way at some stage . He thought (after freaking out after Joel contacted him after all these years through his step sisters on facebook) that he should come and see us. He brought his youngest daughter along. Nice girl, and my youngest hit it off with her immediately.
Meanwhile everyone is freaking out about it ........because they thought I should never forgive him for leaving me holding the baby 21 years ago. but I'm a forgiving sought of chick and even I can't hold a grudge for that long.
all was going really well too until Saturday night when he bought some wild turkey and after a few hours told him what i'd thought of him all these years.......OOPs.
didn't think I had that much hurt in me. Well it seems he grew up because he took it all in and didn't hold it against me.
well it's all out of my system now I guess.:wah:
Was freaky when I put Joel and his girlfriend back on the train to Melbourne and heard my son say "seeya mum, seeya dad" We just looked at each other got into the car and I asked him "Okay am I the only one freaked out about that?" he said "nope that was freaky":wah::wah::wah:
Everyone has gone and back to their lives now and they say stuff like that can't be done or sorted .
Now I'm off to see my youngest be presented with a scholarship for high school..................god he's a damn good writer for an 11 year old . i should post some of his stuff sometime.

It sounds as though it has done you the world of good - laying the ghosts to rest so to speak.
Good for you that you could hold it together and make a success of the weekend :-6

What a wonderful story and as stated better late than never. I bet your son will never forget this wonderful birthday present. I know it took a lot for you to do this but I give you so much credit for allowing your son and his dad share this very special day.

There are sooo many people out of sorts with this . I don't get it, I feel I've done the right thing.
I always tell people I do things a little differently to most, I think differently, I act differently.............they love that, until I actually do something and they crack em' because it's not how they would do things. :-5:-5:-5:-5:-5:-5:-5

Not up to them - it's up to you and how you feel they should be done.
