Okay I have a beef about the word Newbie

Post by fuzzywuzzy »

It was okay during the "message board" days of the internet long long ago ........but who the hell gave these people a title ?

It's not right I tells ya!!!

what made these people so important that they have to have a title? for gods sakes!!! they just got here!!!

Just introduce your damn selves and be done with it ......it's an outdated word and title......christ!!!! you'll be wanting us to call you Sir next!!!!

Get over yourselves.

could you imagine walking into your new job or party and stating how new you are, and not knowing anybody, is somehow cool?

Oh the inventor of electricity would be turning in his grave knowing someone thinking himself a manager from "the office" is introducing themselves as worthy.

There are a couple of reasons I can think of for stating it.

To know the term they probably have been to a forum somewhere before and may know there can be general suspicion of new members being former members in disguise. :yh_glasse

They may be a former member in disguise trying to pretend they are a newbie. :yh_devil

They may have been called a newbie as an insult in the past and are pre-empting it this time around.

I didn't know the word newbie when I was one but probably just because this was my first forum.

Is being called a "newbie", better than being called an "oldie but goodie"?
