I'm so embarrassed...why do I do these things? I posted a reply waaaaaay back, when this thread was in the baseball mode, and it finally shows up, here, totally out of place, having nothing to do with anything! Here we are, merrily reading along, and then up comes this total non-sequitir!!:-5

Well -my daughter is in her room crying her eyes out..She has lost everything from cable to decorations to her DS, right down to her new comforter..(and no she isn't sleeping in a cage...)...Only can come out if she needs to pee or eat supper. I know this sounds harsh..but at 13 you know better then to lie and then keep lying after you know your caught- don't you? I can only hope that this small monster inside her will eventually leave but then again - it has been so many months now that I am ready to say - Here -u win -do whatever you want....just stop lying and crying...I know as a parent I can not allow her to do these things - and then think that she can get away with it...Ok now that you are all lost - I am going to bed hoping that in the morning my-darling baby girl will be back to normal and that I will be able to stop my world from spinning out of control............Ohhh dear Gawd.....Drama - Drama....when does HE say--Ok you've had enough....Ohh wait a minute...HE is making me stronger.....right? ARGHHHHHHHHHHH:-5

I thought everybody does the "low stress" thing with teens these days. Sit down with them & let them decide the rules and the punishments (with heavy influence and final decision reserved for the parent). Write 'em down. Then when (not if) the kid f's up, you hit'em with their own punishment. Just make sure there a severe punishment for arguing. That way when they complain about the first punishment, they bring more down on themselves.

Takes responsibility from the parent & places it squarely on the little s**t's shoulders, where it belongs. You're just enforcing the kid's own rules.

Yes true. Mom It isn't a cake walk is it. This weekend we (ex and I) had hours of long long discussions about our oldest and we agreed she must move out. She has totally taken advantage of me, her dad, her sister, her step sister, step brother and step mother. None of us can tolerate her comings and goings, her asking for money and never paying back, her asking for rides at all hours, her lies, her anger (yes confession time I was an abused mother) so we agreed she is of adult age she must go out on her own and learn responsibility and respect. You bet ACC put responsibility onto their shoulders. It hurt to send her packing but along with it is said "I have faith in you and you will succeed, come back and visit some time"

The situation is critical here...I have searched my entire house, top to bottom, and I cannot find a speck of chocolate. Close to panic, but fighting to maintain control. Someone....please...talk to me....

Welcome to parenting, and right about here is where a lot of parents drop the ball. What she's doing is stretching the limits. Just how much can I get away with? She's changing from a child into an adult and she's trying to find her own way. It's a tough time for everyone. Some parents will try to be their child's best friend. They'll do anything to make sure that their child likes them and doesn't hate them. They'll even be so permissive as to let the child run the house and do dnagerous things.

Let's get this straight...it's not friends that kids need, they have those in abundance. It's parents that they must have.

But no matter what they say, kids need rules. I remember once overhearing a conversation between two teenagers in my class. One was sniffling and crying and whining uncontrollably about how horrible her mother was and how she had grounded her for sneaking out> (No admission here that she had broken the rules, it was her mother's fault for catching her....get the self-centered thinking?)

the other little girl sat thee with a sad expression on her face and after the first girl's tirade had finished, she heaved a heavy sigh and said, "At least your parents care what you do."

I wish you could have seen the look of the complaining girl's face!

I know this sounds harsh..but at 13 you know better then to lie and then keep lying after you know your caught- don't you?

Absolutely, and so does your daughter.

Ohhh dear Gawd.....Drama - Drama....

Welcome to my world, I spend the entire day in a room filled with them. :D

when does HE say--Ok you've had enough....Ohh wait a minute...HE is making me stronger.....right? ARGHHHHHHHHHHH:-5

Absolutely! Here's what's funny, after the years have passed and she has grown into a beutiful woman wiht skills and a career to be proud of, you'll both look back at these days and laugh.

And you'll laugh even longer (but not to her face) on the day she comes to you and asks, "Mom, what am I going to do with my 13 year old?!!"

Whoa! I did the same thing...I had to send my daughter packing when she was 18 and had a 2-year old that I was raising, she was totally irresponsible and disrespectful to the nth degree. Finally couldn'ted deal with it anymore and sent her out. It's not easy. She called me to let me hear my grandson crying so I'd feel guilty, she harassed me, she nearly drove me out of my mind with worry and stress, but I had to, had to, had to do the "tough love" routine. No, she couldn't take care of her son, and he has been living with friends for 4 years, but we see him, he knows she's his "belly mommy", and he is totally well adjusted thank God.

She went through 3 years of hell, and I felt guilty for it because I wasn't helping her out, but it was time for her to get real. She is now 23, and we now have a FANTASTIC relationship, she is engaged to a doll of a guy, a teddybear who loves her dearly. They just gave birth to their daughter 3 weeks ago, (I know, she still does some things in the wrong order), but she's finally turning around and her life is finally going up instead of down. Stick to your guns Mom, you are doing the right thing for her. Even though we may make some mistakes sometimes in raising our kids, the overall outcome is good if we don't give up. And pray!
Think positive. And if you can't, fake it 'til you make it.
