Many observances today, I just watched them reading the names in NYC...........we remember those who died, and pray for their families.

I guess thats the power of 'real time' news. I was in Norfolk va. coming home from a night shift. Turned on the news, just like always, and there it was.......the second plane hitting the tower before the newscaster knew it. Watched the whole thing unfold from there.......

I was still in the Air Force, Hill AFB, Utah. I walked into the dentist's office and saw everyone glued to the tv. The reporter said a small plane, possibly as large as a DC-10 had hit the tower.
I watched the second plane hit - live on the air. I said aloud, "That's no accident. We're at war."

I had chemo the day before and had slept in..My sister called and said to get up and turn the TV on. I remember sitting on the couch with my bucket and crying all day - and when my kids got off the bus -they too were upset as the school had called classes - took the kids into the Auditorium and let them watch after lunch...What a sad day---:-1

I used to sell tropical fish to local pet stores and Tuesday was my day to pick up fish at the airport - 9:20am. I got up at 6:00am to get tanks ready. I was watching the news...........the TV in my living room just happened to blow its picture tube as I was watching reports of the first plane hitting the tower. I panicked and went running for the other TV hoping it was just that TV. I turned it on in time to see the 2nd plane hit the other tower. I sat on my bed and cried for all the people and their families. I am a cry baby when it comes to things like this. I could not leave the TV. I remember thinking I had to go to the airport when I heard all flights were being put down at the nearest major airports. My fish made it to Dallas. I remember the reports of F-16's being sent to guide certain other aircraft to the nearest airport - NOT their destination airport. The pentagon was hit and then the very brave passengers brought down the 4th plane. I still get goose bumps. I still cry. My SIL got his deployment orders on Friday - he leaves for Iraq in 2 weeks.

So sad we all can remember where we were on 9-11. Much like we all remember where we were when JFK was killed.
I was watching the news getting ready for work... I saw the second plane hit the towers live on TV...Nightmare to watch, nighmare for all the families from that day forward. May all the families find peace somehow some way..:-1 :-1

I remember where I was when JFK died. I was in 3rd grade and an announcement came over the school intercom. Your parents will be coming to pick you up. That was all. It wasn't even lunch time yet. The entire city of Roswell shut down and went into mourning. I thought about that day when 9/11 was happening.

The Discovery Channel is showing a program tonight called "The Flight That Fought Back." It's a minute-by-minute account of the events of flight 93. Starts at 9 pm, and they're showing it 3 times in a row. I wonder if I'll be able to pull myself away from the TV for those 6 hours.

Is that sarcastic or for real? I mean, is it something that would bother you to see and you mean you definitely WON'T watch it, or you really do?
(That's an actual question, I'm confused as to your tone.)

I just read a bunch of her old posts. She puts smilies around her jokes. I'm sure she was serious.

We woke up to the news here. My alarm goes off to the radio. As usual, I was still half asleep when the alarm went off, but somehow through the sleep fog, I caught a few key words - there was something different in the tone of the newsreader. Got out of bed and turned the TV on to find out more. Didn't move for 1/2 hr or more. Kept hearing more as the day went.

I was working third shift.. had gotten home, had my dinner and was sound asleep when the phone started ringing off the hook. Turned on CNN and sat there in shock for hours.

I was working for a decal shop, walked in to see everyone glued to the radio and one of the guys grabbing my arm to come listen too as the second plane hit.

It was my birthday, and I was going through a divorce, also I was headed into work at the pharmacy, and the pharmacist took a radio off the shelf and plugged in, can you beleive the store manager actually flipped, she turned to him and said "Take a break Kevin you dont have to be a prick every day of your life""
I just finished a book called 102 minutes inside the twin towers. Heartbreaking true stories of people who died , lived and saved others, it is worth reading, the sad, sad, sad, part of this is the stairwells, poor comunication, and yes some people were informed by 911 operators to stay put. Yeah, that was a stupid answere, also, there is an account of individuals that made it out and were told to goe back up by the security guards because it would be safer for them, with all the caos and stuff. I wondering how he is sleeping these days. A decision that will haunt him forever.

I was in Youngstown in my Chem class and my professor was sobbing because her sister worked in New York. At the time I didn't know what was going on and I thought "well yeah I'd probably cry if I had to work in NY too." When I got back to the place I was sharing with some roommates and the Psycho Ex he came dashing through the door, broke the banister going upstairs, came down in fatigues with a backpack (AF Reserve) shrieking "turn on CNN" at us.
We spent the rest of the day trying down to track down my Indian roommate since we lived in the worst part of town and we didn't want someone to hurt him because of his skin.

i was out at the police academy giving a law class...the LT. broke in the class and said "i just saw the strangest thing on my pc, and don't know if it's real"... so i and about 13 young recruits followed him back to office ...we stood there and watched as the plane flew into tower. i said "THIS IS PEARL HARBOR". the young recruits had no idea what i meant. but i knew, i just knew. i asked the director to let us all leave for the day and it took them 4 hours to let us go! no-one really understood the implications yet. within 24 hours we had Israeli troops secretly at our facility training us in urban warfare.

We were living in Bakersfield, CA. We were getting ready for work in the morning, and as usual, I came into the kitchen to make breakfast and turn on National Public Radio News. Shortly, I knew something very big was going on, and I went into the garage and pulled out an old, portable TV, covered with dust, from a shelf of junk. (shows you what we think of TV- the next time we had it on was the Bush-Kerry debates- haven't used it since) I got it on, and tuned in to a local TV station just in time to see replays of the planes hitting the towers. And then I saw the most horrible thing I've ever seen- the towers disappearing into a cloud of smoke! I stood and stared at the tube with my mouth hanging open. I knew immediately that thousands were dying, and that this was something that would permanently change life and politics in America. Being a big Bible prophecy freak, the first thing that came to my mind was Jesus' statement in Matthew 24:8, "These are the beginning of sorrows."
The eye surgeon I was working with at the time was doing cataract surgery that morning. Later, he admitted to me that someone had come into the operating room and told him what was happening (stupid!!). He said, "I lost it. I didn't get a very good result with that patient." How would you have liked to be on the operating table on 9-11, and some dummy go in and tell your surgeon?
