Question for Spot...
As you live very close to me Spot, have you notice a deterioration in the quality of your tap water?
We usually filter ours anyway but over the past week, It is coming out of the tap a funny yellowish, cloudy colour and on occassions, It has had a froth on It.
I have contacted Wessex Water and they are taking a sample this week.
What's yours like where you are or are you suffering the same?

Yes It does Gill. Funny enough, Mr O drew a pint glass full off tonight and asked me to smell It as his sense of smell Is not good. As I told him, It smelt of sulphur or an ammonia smell. The taste Is disgusting also... Very acrid. I am getting In touch with the Water Board again In the morning as I had not noticed the smell before.
Do you have similar problems Gill?
It really is that bad that I'm buying some bottled water In the morning until they find the cause.

DO NOT take chances with contaminated water as it can kill you.
If you need to boil water, use bottled.
Walkerton, Ontario's water in 2002 contaminated with fatal E. coli.:
Walkerton report highlights
CBC News Online | January 2002
Most serious case of water contamination in Canadian history could have been prevented by proper chlorination of drinking water, according to a judicial inquiry report about Walkerton, Ontario's fatal E. coli outbreak.
Justice Dennis O'Connor's report also points to the region's public utilities managers and Ontario government cutbacks as contributors to the tragedy.
Seven people died and 2,300 became ill after Walkerton's water supply became contaminated with manure spread on a farm near the town, the report concludes.
The report, released in two parts over the winter and spring of 2002, contains hundreds of findings and recommendations.
* Up to 400 illnesses could have been prevented if water manager Stan Koebel had monitored the chlorine levels daily and had notified authorities right away that the water was contaminated.
* The Ontario government failed to make reporting of positive tests for contamination mandatory when water testing was privatized in 1996.
* Government cuts at the province's Environment Ministry made it less capable of identifying and dealing with problems at Walkerton's water utility.
* The local health unit was quick to respond to the crisis with a boil-water advisory, but it should have been more wide-spread. Many Walkerton residents were not aware of the warning.
This is how Justice Dennis O'Connor summarized the inquiry's findings:
* Seven people died, and more than 2,300 became ill. Some people, particularly children, may endure lasting effects.
* The contaminants, largely E. coli O157:H7 and Campylobacter jejuni, entered the Walkerton system through Well 5 on or shortly after May 12, 2000.
* The primary, if not the only, source of the contamination was manure that had been spread on a farm near Well 5. The owner of this farm followed proper practices and should not be faulted.
* The outbreak would have been prevented by the use of continuous chlorine residual and turbidity monitors at Well 5.

No problems in our area, Oscar. I was really only joking, because urine smells of ammonia and you said the water was a yellowish colour. But seriously, I wouldn't touch the stuff, not even for washing, unless it is boiled first. Odie is quite right about e-coli etc.
About 10 years ago, my second brother and his wife were holidaying in Cornwall, when they became quite ill. They came home earlier than they had planned, then they found out that a delivery of aluminium had been just poured into the water plant, without supervision. The chap was late delivering and staff had gone home, so there was nobody there to direct him. He didn't want to go away without leaving his 'cargo' and just poured the job lot into a vat, or whatever, as he had done this before when there was somebody to direct him at the plant. He assumed it would be OK. However, the mix was far too concentrated, and thus contaminated all the water for a period of time. Apparently this aluminium is only added to our mains water to give it a bit of 'sparkle', and make it look pure!
The outcome was a high increase of alzheimers, and many hundreds of people becoming ill, many with severe headaches. Why are we allowing such stuff to be added to such a vital commodity just so it looks sparkly? Fluoride is another item - my brother, who was a research scientist for the government, said years ago, that adding sufficient fluoride to drinking water to be of any use, could in fact kill people. The amounts that are actually added to water is not enough to do any good at all, and he said it is very difficult to get the ratios correct in any case . Fluoride is just a waste of time, in our drinking water. He reserves judgement concerning toothpaste.

Oscar, if it's not too late, ring up your local radio station and get them to put out a warning for people to not drink the water, and to boil it first before using it for washing. It may save some people illnesses, and it could well galvanise authorities to take urgent action !

Devon. Camelford. 22 years ago, and the driver loaded the stuff into the purification plant through the wrong hatch by accident. The ill effects are still being denied by the local authority, as far as I know. I'd put it down to design error.

The attitude of Wessex Water is unbelievable. They seem to have no Interest at all and said they will just send some-one out to collect a sample.
It is slightly better today. The froth has gone and so has the yellow tinge but It still tastes of sulpher and is very cloudy.
I shall show as much Interest In paying my bill next time. When they send me the final demand, I will tell them I will send some-one to collect a sample in the next week.

If you buy some medical sample bottles and collect some every 12 hours you'll be able to argue later. Without you possessing samples of your own, Wessex will simply deny everything.
I bet it's all those foxes peeing in the back garden and rusting the pipe.

Oscar, I've said tell the media and say the Wessex Water are being very off-hand about something which may be very harmful to the public. You know as well as me how effective publicity can be ! They'll shift their arses, the minute the radio, tv, press start asking questions! Can you ask the University to do an immediate test, if you supply a sample? In the meantime, don't touch the water at all. Tell the media, you are most concerned for peoples health and that you are not using the mains water till it is sorted. I wonder how many old people are blithely drinking and bathing in that suspect water ???

(smile) I know how you feel Gill and my advice to you is to revel revel revel and gloat gloat gloat. Walking around for a week with a smug grin is also satisfying.
I found this a year ago when Spot Insisted that Kennedy did not 'secretly' remove missiles from Turkey and I proved him wrong. Although he did try to get out of It by Insisting my source was biased. However, my smug grin could be seen in the outer hemisphere for some weeks after.
