Scan Vs. Pat Down

Post by Lon »

My wife (retired RN, CNM) feels that she has just had two many x-rays and CAT scans in the very recent past and now that we are getting ready to go to New Zealand next month she says that she would rather submit to a PAT DOWN rather than a scan.

Would you prefer a pat down as an alternative?

They can do both just get me there safe. I would like some medication to relax me as well if I'm going to be blownup, or plunge into to ocean or the ground I don't want to know. :wah:

I get the works every time I visit my nephew in the secure Unit. It Involves first putting two fingers on Infra Red and having your finger-prints checked against the one's they have on computer. Then You have to put all your possessions In a locker, remove your shoes, belts etc. Then you walk through electronic doors Into a metal detector. Once through that you are re-united with your shoes. Then You have 'Pat down' by a warden Including a torch In your mouth. Then you go outside to the spot where you are checked by the sniffer dogs. It becomes very tedious every week or so but nessessary I suppose. I have been patted down by male and female wardens and I don't mind either. Scanners seem to be more Invasive I feel.

I prefer the scan, where some bored civil servant looks for anomalies in an image of my chubby self without ever actually seeing me in person, to the same bored civil servant feeling me up and tickling me.

I don't care. Anything that makes travel safer...

As for being patted down - it's done by airport security staff of the same sex as the person being patted down. I have invariably found them polite and completely professional. It is done quickly, impersonally and without fuss.

An I'm sorry to these guys but . . .

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although there's always hope . . . I'm told the class nerd at primary school turned into the most gorgeous hunk you ever saw! :)

We've had several threads on this subject and I was pondering on it the other day (as is my wont (lol)) and I wondered what would happen if someone with a metal plate in their body went through a metal detector and set off alarms . . . but got through because of the plate . . . they could still have a gun on them!

Surely a scan is then the best option as it would show up ALL metal - including plates and guns!

But as Pammie says, it's quick and impersonal. They must do it so many hundreds of times, and they need to keep the commuters moving through the system, that they probably don't even think twice about it. On top of which, one quick grope and they would lose a well-paid job. It wouldn't be worth the hassle. They probably barely notice your face even. Just register your nationality (as someone said, they may be more aware of middle eastern nationalities) and then they scan you for possible weapons with their eyes.

Its much like a doctor I guess, more intrusive and embarrassing for you but as pervy as drinking a cup of tea for them. If you get my drift.

Perhaps I should consider it. I could really use the money right now. :lips:
