Visualizing One Trillion Dollars

Post by BTS »

It’s official, trillion is the new billion. No longer is government spending talked about in terms of a mere ten digits. With the recent flurry of government spending, we are going to need another three zeros to make sense of it all.

One trillion dollars; it’s a number that few people can comprehend, let alone your standard nine digit calculator. There have been attempts to put this number into perspective before. A trillion dollar bills laid end to end would reach the sun or you spend a dollar per second for 32,000 years or one trillion dollars in pennies would weigh as much as 2,755,778 Argentinosauruses (the largest known dinosaur). Fanciful as this may be, the real story behind one trillion dollars is in its economic impact. Let’s investigate what one trillion dollars can do.

Yeah! 706 billion of that 1 trillion goes to our military. If you want to lower taxes for the rich its going to have to cost them some of their muscle, which is what the American military is - corporate muscle. Think Sopranos or mafia!:)

The only way to break the system is to bankrupt it. The US should spend a higher proportion of GDP on its armed forces, not less. At the moment the Rest Of The World outspends it and that's plain wrong.

Whoa............... Hold On Scheckie.... Might be a long ride for the next 3 years!!!!!That's completely disingenuous, BTS. He has not much choice, in fact many say it hasn't been enough.

Though I agree that the entire economic team he has in place is just an extension of Bush's team and they all need to go find other careers.

So the increase of $3.7 TRILLION is low?:confused:

Would $5.7 TRILLION work better for your plan?

You did see what $1 TRILLION correlates to?........Right?

Or is it that you don't care??????????

That might work...

Though I predict what would happen in the case of bankruptcy is that the last handful of rational politicians would get all the blame pinned on them, and the fascists would convince the public that full-out world conquest (German style) would be the only way back to the promised land. What's the point of having expensive nukes if they don't put them to good use?

My observation of the worst politicians is that their success is propelled by their greatest failures. Like George Bush ... he wouldn't have gotten elected in 2004 if he didn't create such a huge mess, that people were scared to change leaders in the the middle of it. That, and democrats were not enthusiastic about inheriting a giant political liability that was about to become a huge disaster.

It's like: Create a little mess, you get fired. Create a big mess, you get promoted because you are the only person that understands the huge problem you created. And because no one else wants ownership of a disaster. :)

How does that differ from what we see at the moment?

Cheney and other fascist neocons were chomping at the bit for a third world war. It was a disaster (9/11) that gave them a window of confusion to act. Another disaster like complete bankruptcy, I think they will have another window to advance their agenda again. They take advantage of chaos and emotion... reason gets drowned out. Questions like, hey are we attacking the right country? Should we be?
