Could Use A Little Help

Post by Nomad »

I saw a singer on PBS Soundstage the other evening and I cant find her name on their website. It might help if I actually knew her name but I know it starts with an M and I believe there is a z in there. Madizi or Madzia...something like that.

Shes European, possibly a Spaniard or Portugese.

She has very short blonde almost white hair.

Thank you,

Hofenfeffer damnit !

Never mind.

Mariza (Portuguese pronunciation: [mɐˈɾizɐ]) is the stage name of a popular fado singer.[1][2] She was born Marisa dos Reis Nunes on 16 December 1973 in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique. At the time, Mozambique was known as the Portuguese Overseas Province of Mozambique.

Mariza is the child of a Portuguese father and a mother of partial black African heritage (Mozambique).[3] At age 3, her family moved to Portugal, and she was raised in traditional quarters of Lisbon, Mouraria and Alfama. While very young she began singing in a wide variety of musical styles, including gospel, soul and jazz. Her father strongly encouraged her to adopt fado; he felt that participating in the traditional music would grant her greater acceptance in the Portuguese community.

The family lived for a while in Brazil, where her singing style was strongly influenced by the musical rhythms of that country's popular music. When the family returned to Portugal she again immersed herself in the fado genre, infusing it with a Brazilian-beat undertone.

She has sold over 500.000 records Worldwide.

Hi Nomad,

I've been listening to Fado music since my trip to Portugal in 2001. My family and I stayed at a gorgeous resort in the Algave of Portugal. We had tickets to see a Fado singer named Dulce Ponte who was spectacular, and I've had the opportunity to also see her in Newark, NJ where many Portuguese people live.

Amalia Rodrigues is considered to be the queen of Fado music.

Here's a youtube of Amalia...

Thank you for a link to Mariza..I can't wait to listen to it later:-6
