Next door have had a major refit to their bathroom, sitting room and kitchen ! I think the hammer drills are finished with now, and there isn't any more comings and goings by workmen. Herself has moved a load of 'surplus to requirement' stuff out onto the front lawn, and the lot has been carted off to the tip, I'm pleased to say, because it was beginning to look a bit like our local tip with all the junk piled up. We have a shared front path to our front doors, so her front garden is one side of the path and ours is the other (of course  ), but to a casual passer-by, the junk could just as easily have been ours !

Our neighbour's house (semi-det with ours) is owned by a housing association, so all this refurbishing is being paid for by the housing association. I haven't seen what has been done, but my hubby saw the kitchen through their open back door, the other day as he walked by, and he said that it had been made really marvellous inside with new fitments, tiling, painting, sink unit, work surfaces, wall units, base units. Very posh ! Lucky buggers! I expect the bathroom is just as posh :wah: The house has been completely re-wired as well!

It's alright for some innit ! I did have a feeling a while ago that the neighbour was planning on leaving, but I suspect she will be staying, for the forseable future

now ! :yh_rotfl I'm just so relieved that all the banging, drilling, sawing has stopped, and there is a certain peace hovering over us - till their dog starts barking cos they're all out all day and it's bored and lonely. The dog 'Lotty' is a gorgeous black labrador, and very friendly, and adores our big 'Rex'. Sorry Lotty but Rex, although interested, won't be able to give you any mini Lotties ! He lost a bit of weight when he was in the Animal Shelter before we adopted him - he had 'chops' and 'chips' there. (yes he has a chip ID in him). Poor Rex, the spirit is willing me old mate, bless him, but the end product - well forget it :yh_rotfl

This is Rex, the other day, waiting for his Cartrophen injection, for arthritis. It's proving very helpful for him. Expensive for us, but he's well worth it! :-4

next time you go, ask if they have a spare one ................. could do with some of that myself lol xx

they had children and i was fully aware of his responsabilty towards them, in fact it was me who remembered hospital appointments, school meetings etc so that he attended them.

not long after that, it became shopping trips, gardening, shifting furniture, mending the washing machine !!!!!!!

when i started to object, it then turned into "accidents and ficticious hospital emergencys" getting so bad that i made him phone the emergency department to check if this was true before he rushed off in the early hours to sort it out !!!!

my elderly mother fell over and broke both her arms and we had to drive 200 miles to bring her back to our house, the ex phoned him while we were sorting out my mums belongings, screaming down the phone that one of the kids had a splinter in his finger and he should be there attending to it, not acting as a taxi for me so thats when i totally lost it, as my mum could hear every word she said !!

needless to say, it stopped for some time after that....................

but the final straw was when he died suddenly from a magor heart attack and she invited a guy to his funeral who she swore i was having an affair with and she spent the whole day watching me to see if i had any contact with him so she could proove a point !!!!

needless to say we are no longer on speaking terms !!!!!!!

I'm waiting for something to happen to my x, as he is going through so much stress with her and its every week.

as of today, I do things my way........

Good morning Gill! :-6 So what's new with you? We are expecting a huge snow storm to hit us on Wednesday. They say it's going to be the biggest snowfall we've had so far. They are predicting over 20 inches to fall before it ends. Thank goodness I'm well prepared for these types of storms. I have a gas run commercial size generator which keeps the electric on in case the power goes out. I also have two wood stoves and have just stacked a ton of wood. I'm going to go out later to stock up on supplies before the stores get bombarded with shoppers. Have I muttered enough this morning? :wah:

Morning Gill, Jazzy and Helen!:-6

that's a lot of snow, we are getting 10 cm the same day, roughly 4 inches or 5.

Ready to finally use my snow blower!:yh_rotfl

great idea to stock up Jazzy!

and good you have a generator as not many do.

I am awake, you cheeky person ! Been awake since 7 am !

You seem very organised with regard to self-sufficiency. Gas-fired generator, wood stocks, and very soon no doubt groceries! Good for you Mrs! Having an independent generator is a bonus, but I expect you have learnt from experience that it is a very important 'bonus' in this sort of winter weather!

I remember many years ago, we had the miners strike in the UK. To conserve power, (we had a lot of coal-fired power stations then) there were regular power cuts which lasted about 4 hours at varying times of the day. These times and the areas affected were notified in advance, so people could organise themselves. We would charge up 2 x 12 volt batteries, when the electricity was on, ready for use when the power was on it's 4 hour 'off', and rigged up strings of 12 volt lights in various places in our cottage in the country. We also had a TV which was portable and ran off 12 volts. We had an open stone fireplace which we burnt logs on, in our sitting room. We had an LPG gas cooker in the kitchen, so we had independent cooking, just in case the mains gas was turned off as well as the electricity. The cottage was centrally heated, so when the power was 'off' we would not get any heating as it needed electricity to power the water pump. But apart from that, we were well set up, and people would pass by our windows on their way to the pub, and wonder how we got our lighting and TV ! LOL A bit of forward planning eh? ;)

You soon learn to cater for contingencies when you do not live in towns. The only thing we had to watch out for, was opening the fridge or the freezer. Certainly the freezer would be OK for many hours if nobody opened the door, before it started to defrost. The fridge was not so important, as there were always other methods for keeping foodstuff cool.

Well, today, here we have wall-to-wall sunshine, with a few fluffy white clouds. No rain or snow yet, but it has been forecast for evening, though not so much as yourself - just a dusting I believe. I'm not sorry about that, as we have to do a bit of driving about in the next few days.

I hope everybody is OK and managing to keep warm and dry and keeping plenty of food in the cupboard ! :-6 :)

The storm blew past us and that figures because I was all prepared for it :wah: My generator runs for 17 hours and I had wired so that it supplies power to all major appliances, the furnace, hot water heater, circulation pump (so I can flush toilets) television and certain areas of the house where I can turn on lights. My house is huge so I had to pick and choose what I wanted the generator to power. I had the two wood stoves & generator installed because when I first moved into my house the "welcome" I got was a storm that took down power for over 18 hours. The house had no heat which I can deal with but I was worried about my animals. There is no way I could have taken (at that time) 2dogs, 1 cat, an Amazon Parrot and a pig to a hotel :wah:

Hope there have been no more incidents of damage done to your care. Have a good day Gill *you cheeky brat* :wah:

I'm OK thanks for asking, Helen. Wish I could get motivated like you !

Maybe it's because today is rather cloudy and a little on the cool side, I dunno.

Hey Jazzy, who you callin' a 'cheeky brat' ? I'm never cheeky :wah: :lips:

I'm very pleased to hear that you are 'full of beans' Odie :D

So far, our car has remained untouched. We park it along another road which is not a natural 'through road' for people to get to the estate, so they would not go by it. It's a bit of a drag having to fetch it to our house each time we want to go out in it, but if it keeps it away from the pillocks then I'm prepared to hack that slight inconvenience !

Hope you're all OK ! :-6 :D

It's good to see you diggin yer heels in Mrs. :wah: Serves them right. Why should you clear up their mess ffs? You aint 'Muggins' any more! Have you heard anything more about them closing the chippy and buggering off to USA ? I hope you are keeping your eyes open for other employment, if you want it that is.

At the moment, it is snowing here, and has been snowing since tea time ish. Started off fairly thick 'wet' flakes which did not settle, but then as the temperature dropped, the flakes got smaller and the snow is settling, It was coming from the North East but in the last hour it has veered to South West ! Well let's put it this way, it is doing a lot of swirling around so not quite sure of the wind direction - there is very little breeze any way. I hope it doesn't last, as we have to go out just before lunchtime in the car :driving: Well at worst, we could get down the hill with care, then the main roads should be OK (if the gritter has been along), but if the side roads are still snow covered when we return, we may have to leave the car on the main road and walk back up the hill to our house. I must remember my 'moon boots' and take them with us ! :D

Keep warm everybody!

Morning all ! Hi Helen, ee eck, it would be nice if you could be kept in the picture with regard to your future employment, but I suppose the silence and non-info is the usual behaviour from that quarter, and all that can be expected !

Anyway, as you say, you have your own roof over your head now and you can be independant of what they decide to do with themselves. Bugger 'em I say :yh_rotfl

Hi Gill and Helen... Just popped In quick to say hello and hope your well. We had a little flurry of snow but that was It. However, It's very cold and frosty late at night.

Some news for you two lovely ladies. 'Denman' , 'Kauto Star's rival In the Gold Cup in March made two horrendous blunders on saturday and un-seated his Jockey. His odds for the Gold Cup have drifted out due to this and I have to say i'm a little concerned now for my bet on a 'Kauto/Denman' forecast. Having said that, he's bounced back before. My brother and other bookies are absolutely dreading the Gold Cup and are manically laying off and selling bets as we speak. They are convinced It's a one horse race to Kauto. My brother predicts 'Imperial Commander for second and Possibly Madison for third as I predicted.

Helen... I shall be throwing my shoes at the Hunt at Cheltenham on the day :yh_rotfl

What a bummer about missing Dessie? I would have been gutted.

I saw him win the Gold Cup in 89... Just awesome and I cried.

That was very naughty of you Oscar ! Brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. Shergar, Red Rum, Arkle, Desert Orchid - what horses ! No doubt Kauto will join the ranks ! :-6

Hi to everybody, hope you are all keeping warm after the early morning snowfall - we got about 3 inches, but it is now melting. We've been warned that there will probably be more snow, and it will freeze tonight. I woke up this morning to a blizzard ! It does make the countryside so clean-looking and fresh and pretty though. :-6 :D

Have any of you flown to another country, or in the case of our American, Australian and Canadian friends, flown to another state? Allow me to introduce you to our Mr. Dave Allen, a very funny Irishman who sends up everything, particularly religion ! Although I do understand that he is a Catholic, but he does take the mick out of religion and some of his sketches are hilarious! Here's his take on flying.................

Thanks for that Gill. That brought back memories of my Father hooting with laughter at him.

Hi Odie, Oscar, Helen and Jazzy, hope stuff's OK in your neck of the woods! :-6 :)

All my family were fans of Dave Allen, not sure what has happened to him, or if he's still alive !!! I can remember us all sitting round the TV watching his hilarious descriptive 'stories', particularly the one explaining how he lost part of a finger! I must try to find that particular show, if I can :wah: It was later on, before his series came to an end, that my father lost some respect for Dave Allen when he started to use more and more abusive expletives. Bloody and bugger were sort of acceptable, but my father lost interest saying that the man had no need to be as crude as that, he spoilt himself by using the 'F' word. I think that was also why the BBC didn't renew his contract, they had a lot of complaints from viewers.

Still, many of his shows were very entertaining, up till then.

It reminds me of a time my dad told us about, after a holiday in Eire that he took with my mum and sister. I'm sure that all the Irish have the same quirky sense of humour !

My dad was busy taking a photograph of the front window of a funeral parlour, in one of the smaller towns in Eire. A garda officer saunters up to him with a quizzical look on his face, and a question in his eye. He glanced at what my dad had his camera trained on, then looked back questioningly at my dad.

"Well" said my dad "It's the name above the window that intrigued me" and he gestured towards the funeral parlour window, above which was written on a very professional looking board 'Do It Yourself Funerals' and added "How do they manage to return the empty hearse then, after the funeral?" quick as a flash the policeman gleefully said "Well, if you'll notice, it's down hill all the way back from the cemetery !"

That is a true story, and I wish I knew where the photo was, that my dad took !

:yh_rotfl

By the way, thanks Helen for the encouraging weather forecast ! grrrrrrrrrrr

Morning everybody ! Bit cloudy here, also a little breeze and not very warm although the sun is trying to break through the clouds. There is snow or rain threatened for later today and into the evening.

Pics of the snow that fell on us at the weekend ! About 3" LOL, like it's devastating  But it does make things look nice and clean dunnit?

The first picture shows our neighbour's car under the snow, beyond the Leylandii (which is looking like a Christmas tree!).

Hello Gill! I love the pictures you posted. The tree looks beautiful with the snow. In the second picture, it that a church steeple in the background? The road in the second picture looks very narrow and I'd be worried if my car was parked in front of my house :wah: Thank you again for the lovely pictures.

Hi Jazzy, yes that is a church just at the edge of the picture. It has the tallest steeple in the county! Those cars are parked, half on the pavement (sidewalk:wah:), but you are right, it is a bit risky particularly as the road also curves at that point, and starts to slope downhill ! The road actually is just over two car widths wide, so not really very wide is it? It is the road we can see from our sitting room window, and we get a lot of entertainment watching drivers struggling to get up the hill from right to left when the road is covered in hard-packed snow! :-6 :D
