I haven't heard of Casey's , but the rest are all part of national chains.

A local restaurant to me is not part of a conglomerate. It's owned and run through the hard work of somebody who lives in my community. Usually, they're immigrants, and the whole family works long hours to keep it running.

I'd rather patronise a place like that, rather than a multi-million dollar franchise operation that gets it's menu from a truck dispatched from a regional warehouse, like every other restaurant in it's chain.

Having said all that, I like The Silk Route (Indian), Thai Gardens (take a guess ),

Paulo's (Italian) and The Boathouse (seafood, with a magnificent bayside patio and local microbrews on tap), and the Saigon Cafe, a great little noodle house where you can get amazing portions of stir fry and noodles for very little money.

Thai Bamboo Hut is the best in Toronto and Barrie and has won 1st place every year.
