So in our lives, the chances are that at one time or another you have brushed up against the Rich and Famous!

Who was it and what was the situation?

I was once working at a pizza parlor when I was a teen. A large man came in and ordered a large pepperoni for himself. He was the only one in the restaurant.

I cooked it for him and served him (it was a very small place!) then I noticed that the elderly hispanic lady that worked with me was very agitated. She said, "Do you know who that is?!!" I replied, "Nope." She said, "That's ROCK HUDSON! I'll bet he's down from Durango, where he's filming "Avalanche!""

I was unimpressed since I was young and hadn't really heard of him. To me then, he was just some old actor my parents liked.

"Really? I'll go ask him."

"Are you Rock Hudson?"

"Yes, I am."

"Cool. How was the pizza?"

"Great, thanks."

and he gave me a twenty dollar tip! (after scarfing down the entire pizza!)

Another time I was cross-training from cook to security for a big bar. My mentor told me, "Whatever you do, don't let anyone in without an I.D."

So a bit laterr, along comes this young, bald woman with a huge entourage of gorilla-sized men. They all had I.D.s, but she didn't.

Me: "I'm sorry ma'am. You can't come in."

Big gorilla: "Hey! don't you know who this is?"

Me: 'I don't care if she's Barbara Bush. Valid I.D or she can't come in."

Big Gorilla: "Now look, man..."

Girl: "Nevermind, Shakeesh, let's go over there."

So she leaves and the bartender comes over to me and says, "Did you know you just threw Sinead O'Connor out of the bar?":wah:

I've met many minor celebs as many of them frequent our race-courses.

I have met several Big 'Stars' but that would be bragging. I would have to say that one of the nicest I ever met was Gene Pitney.

I have to admit It was fleeting. It was backstage at the Cardiff Millenium Stadium during the 'Bigger Bang' world Tour. Alice Cooper was there also with Iggy Pop. Now Iggy Is cool !!!!

When I was a small child, our Parents used to have drinks Parties for The Conservatives. I was around 8 years old and one evening us kids had done the usual thing of being up to meet our Fathers guests and then sent off to bed. I'd just finished drawing a picture and my Father told me to go and get It to show his guests. One man said very kind things about It and signed It. I thought nothing of It at 8 years old. His name was Sir Enoch Powell.

Never have. Rich and famous folks don't hang out in the dives I used to frequent. However, my first cousin met Stan Musial on a plane. Then, when he was on the security staff of a casino in Vegas, he met Redd Foxx, Frank Sinatra and most of his cronies. No doubt a few gangsters as well.

Many years ago my husband used to drink with Charlie Kray. That got him free admission to a few clubs.

I once got the 'bird' from Perry Como.

Was in a food fight with Burt Reynolds.

Fixed a flat on Emmy Lou Harris' tour bus.

Hey, I like that guy, was he cool?

Once, when I was young and had just moved to Phoenix, I heard that a new DVD store was opening and that James Doohan, "Scotty" from Star Trek was there signing autographs. He was one of my big "heroes" when I was growing up and one of the guys who made being an engineer "cool" and possibly influenced my first career choice.

Well, it was a Saturday, and the store was only about a hundred yards from my apartment, so my roommate and I ran over there to meet him. When I saw to my surprise that we were the first in the store and no one else was around I was ecstatic! I had him all to myself!

So, I ran over to him and gushed, 'Scotty! You're my hero!"

He crossed his arms and icily said, "My name is James Doohan!" I was devastated. I had forgotten that he was a real person and an actor. I tried to stammer an apology, but nicely, he warmed up and laughed. I got to talk to him for quite a while and he told me all about his dogs, wife, and home in Scottsdale. (I think, it's been twenty years.)

I never forgot that lesson, though. Actors in real life are NOT their characters on TV!

Tony Danza had a cooking show that was short lived, as I recall.

At Belvoir Castle, on the borders of Leicestershire, England, The Duke of Rutland and the Duchess held a ball, to raise funds for fighting the Coal Board who were hell-bent on putting up the deepest coal mine in Europe, to the detriment of grade 1 farmland in the Vale of Belvoir. It was a magnificent 'do'. There was a lavish evening carvery type dinner and a huge selection of gorgeous sweets, and there were two ballrooms with bands in each. The various bars in the castle were ever open, and dancing went on till nearly dawn. Breakfast (full English) was served at about 6 am, and 'carriages' were at about 7.30. Now that was 12 hours of absolutely magnificent banqueting, dancing etc, and everybody was in evening dress. The ball gowns were amazing and there must have been virtually millions of £'s worth of finery on show.

My hubby and I were invited as guests, as we were the press and publicity for the Vale Of Belvoir Protection Group, as were the rest of our committee (another 10 people!). That was back in 1977 (we won the fight btw at a public enquiry), and tickets were £40 each and every one was sold ! I met so many celebrities during that evening, that I have forgotten many who attended. But I do remember meeting and talking to Kenneth More, Richard Todd, and Gerald Harper and their lovely wives. Gerald Harper played 'James Hadleigh' in the very long running (52 episodes I think) 1 hour episodes of 'Hadleigh' in the 70's on UK TV. He was very well 'oiled' when I chatted to him, but by gum, he was every inch a gentleman, just like the character he portrayed in the series. He even took my hand and gently kissed it, when I left his delightful company to go and meet other guests! Kenny More was also delightful and charming, as was Richard Todd. I do know that Richard Todd lived not too far away from the castle, and I suspect that Kenneth More and his good lady were guests at his beautiful house.

There were also many titled people present, but I can't for the life of me remember names, but there were loads from the 'H'aristocracy. It didn't matter who or what they were, as everybody was dressed to the 'nines' and everybody chatted with everybody, laughed and joked and danced the night away.

There were several hundred people present, but it did not feel over-crowded, as there was so much room, and two floors were being used.

It just made the night complete, when the announcement was made that "Carriages would be organised for 7.30 am". At that time everybody gradually made their way to the covered entrance to the side of the castle. Vehicles pulled under the canopy in a long line, that reminded me of visiting royalty from other countries arriving at Buckingham Palace!

It was a magical event, and the memory of it I will cherish all my life !

The event raised tens of thousands of pounds for the fighting fund!

'Carriages at 7.30 am' came through the structure on the left side of the castle.

Richard Todd as a young actor.

Kenneth More (in the middle) in his role as Douglas Bader in 'Reach For The Sky'

Gerald Harper, in one of his many roles (Adam Adamant), couldn't find one of him as 'Hadleigh'
I'm a Saga-lout, growing old disgracefully

Quiet but polite. He was having a cocktail in an airport bar and just passing time like anyone.
