I wonder what he did, or didn't do. I also wonder where they've put him, because he will be at great risk inside, once the inmates find out his real identity. Find out they will.

There's no reason given. It will be interesting to see how the story develops.

Whatever... It's just broken the spine of your theory that re-habilitation works on child murderers against long prison terms.

Possibly so, possibly not, we'll wait and discuss it in detail when there are some facts to go round.

Yes I agree with that however, he would not have been returned to custody for a Parking violation. It must be of a fairly serious nature similar to the nature he showed Jamie Bulger to warrent Imprisonment.

Well, no, actually. To quote the then Home Secretary David Blunkett when Venables and Robert Thompson were freed in 2001Thompson and Venables are not free - as I have said they will remain on life licence for the rest of their lives and are liable to be recalled to custody at anytime if there is any evidence that they present a risk to the public.
The life licences include conditions which prohibit Thompson and Venables, whether directly or indirectly, from contacting or attempting to contact the family of James Bulger or each other.
They will also be prohibited from entering the Metropolitan County of Merseyside without the prior written consent of their supervising officers.

Read the article - just traveling too near to Merseyside would be sufficient. No suggestion that it needs to be "similar in nature" to the attack on Jamie Bulger.

Then you have no arguement. That backs my statement perfectly. To return him to custody, he must have displayed behaviour that was deemed a risk to the public. Hence, the re-habilitation In his case was In-effective.

So what part of those two conditions did he not comprehend?
1) Why on earth would he wish to even go within 100 miles of Merseyside?
2) What possible motive could he have from contacting the Bulger family?
Sounds rather sinister to me.

But not necessarily, you'll agree, "behaviour that was deemed a risk to the public".
You're still missing "or each other".

Spots link says:
Dominic Casciani, BBC News
When Jon Venables walked out of prison in 2001, it was not as a free man. His release came because the Parole Board decided the public would be safe if he were allowed into the community on a licence that includes strict conditions.
A criminal's recall to prison is triggered by one of three circumstances. He either committed a crime, showed the signs that he was about to, or breached specific conditions imposed. Breaches can be technical, such as being out of the home at the exact start of a curfew, or far more serious, such as contacting a victim's family.
Venables will be told why he is back inside and he can seek a full oral hearing before the Parole Board. But with public protection being the top priority, the panel will start with the case for keeping him inside, rather than the argument for letting him out.
So it might be as simple as missing a curfew.
Just as a btw, which of those 2 boys had a child of their own?
This is a *hot* story, I'm sure we'll know the reason for his incarceration pretty soon.

He could get pulled in for any minor offence. He is on license till the day he dies yet you're spouting rubbish that he commited a serious offence.
But low and behold we get to the the crux of the matter and we find out you read the daily mirror.

I work in the probation service and take it from me it was a very minor offence that he quite rightly got recalled for.

Well said Limmy!! :yh_clap:yh_clap:yh_clap Sweeping statements and assumptions should be banned!!
I for one sat and wondered last night, how much of a psychological impact this has had on these young men. They committed an horrific offence, no doubt about it, I don't question that in way, shape or form. But, they were ten, they were children. They have to live with the knowledge of what they did for the rest of their lives, I should imagine that to live in their skins must be awful, to live with that guilt must have some sort of negative psychological affect on them. And before everyone starts screaming that they took a life they don't deserve to live, I have no doubt that quite possibly the two that did this would actually rather be dead than be living the lie they have to live now for their own protection.

If that was the case they would have killed themselves already and ended it all. What they did to james bulger was inexcusable, they tortured him for hours, lied to the few people who bothered to challenge them so they could keep their victim and torture him even more. they dropped him on his head, stood him up on a railway track half naked on a cold february day and stoned him half to death before stamping on his face, beating him with bricks and an iron bar. and then left him dying on a railway line with stones over his face.
whatever we think about standing up to the school bully, i guarantee you... to drop a 2 year old on his head, have him bleed profusely and be crying for his mother... and to then continue to torture him for a few more hours before beating him senseless. these two are evil to the core. For a 10 year old or a 30 year old this is behaviour that is beyond repair. They should not have gotten out of jail in the first place. Both are evil and if they truly regretted it they would have killed themselves already and saved the government some money. hopefully someone does the job on at least one of them in jail. they deserve nothing less.

:-5 Intentionally ??? My My My, hit a raw nerve have I?
I think you may ( as a brand new poster to this forum) have more to do with Venebles than the probation service.

Why all the secrecy and cover-ups? Don't Insult our Intelligence that It's to protect the poor little Darlings safety In prison. He has had a new Identity for 17 years. Only the Police and Prison Officials would know who he really was. It stinks...If It was a minor offence, why the big cover up? You don't fool any-one.
What I find sickening Is that you are making excuses for him. How do you think Denise Bulger feels? Does she matter In any of this.?
Trust me... I know more about children murdering the Innocent that you assume I do. You are the one talking complete nonsense and making a fool of yourself.
If you know the exact reason he was returned to custody, then why not state It here? Or are you one of those Bleeding heart Liberals who believe 8 years re-hab Is enough for a murderer?
Frankly, he should have seen the death penalty. Do gooders like you have destroyed this country and are partly to blame for the yob culture we see every day. A 15 year old has just been charged with killing two pensioners by arson. What do you suggest they do with him? 8 years re-hab so he can come out and do It again?
Do you not think that decent people In this country have a right to be protected from the likes of Venebles? What gives you or any-one else despite how many qualifications they rack up, the right to deem weather some murderous little bastard Is fit to walk the streets again and possibly put the public at risk?
Have you ever lost a child In such circumstances? I'm sure If you were Bulgers mother, you'd have a very different out-look.
I for one am horrified that Venebles Is even allowed to form a relationship and possibly spawn a child of his own. Does his girlfriends not have a right to know his true Identity for the possible safety of any child she may have with him?
It has been In the press for many years ( although I am not prone to believing the tabloids) that he has displayed violence whilst out on parale before. Of course, If you know different then you can state It here can't you but I won't hold my breath.
He could get pulled in for any minor offence. He is on license till the day he dies yet you're spouting rubbish that he commited a serious offence.
But low and behold we get to the the crux of the matter and we find out you read the daily mirror.
Says it all.
I work in the probation service and take it from me it was a very minor offence that he quite rightly got recalled for.
People like Oscar make me sick by intentionaly stirring up rumour and misquoting people.
I'm sure If you were Bulgers mother, you'd have a very different out-look.

whatever we think about standing up to the school bully, i guarantee you... to drop a 2 year old on his head, have him bleed profusely and be crying for his mother... and to then continue to torture him for a few more hours before beating him senseless. these two are evil to the core. Very well said.

Now Imagine If Jamie Bulger was your baby?????

Fergus, oscar, Denise Fergus. I expect everything she's felt for the last seventeen years has been centred on losing sight of her child in a shopping centre and trying to get away from the consequent responsibility. It doesn't help her that she's been treated all these years by the tabloids as a mouth organ.
Put the newbie down, it's unsightly to attack strangers. If you can't be welcoming at least have the grace to let him find his feet.

I am very aware Denise Bulger re-married and I am aware of her name as she writes for a woman's magazine that I subscribe to. I deliberately did not use her new married name for the benifit of our US, Australian, and Canadian members who may not have realised I was talking about Jamie's mother.
Put the newbie down????? Now that Is Pot, Kettle Black.

Andy, this is your own thread to start with. Why you can't manage to stick to one for each topic instead of splurging I honestly don't know, but I do wish you'd concentrate sometimes.

If you bother to look, Andy's thread Is actually completely different to this one In that he Is asking If there Is a cover up by Gordon Brown and not what Venebles was returned to custody for, as this one Is.

Not in the slightest - everybody bar you, Andy and benedine is trying very hard not to jump to conclusions. You in particular have been insisting, without evidence, that he must have committed a serious offense - even to the extent of insulting a new member who cannot, for reasons you should know better than most, reveal any details of inside knowledge.

This from today's Mail.
Mr Straw insisted there was a 'very good reason' why the murdered toddler's family and the public could not be told why Venables was back in jail.

I actually spent a fair bit of time last night googling to find a reason for sending him back to custody. I do hope It Is a Minor offence and he has not hurt anyone else. However, The assumptions I make are a reflection of the Public feeling yet the 'Public' are not all on thgis forum to express their view.
As for Insulting the newbie.. Do we have new rules here now?
The 'Newbie' Insulted me. It would have been perfectly acceptable for him or her to come on and say 'I am conected with the case and I can assure you he has not been returned to custody for a serious offence'. That would have been suffice to make the point.

Yes, I should imagine that 8 years of re-hab would cause the acceptance of responsibility, remorse and a full and thorough knowledge that what they did was wrong, that would be the whole point of rehab, yes?

You do not represent the public, you express your opinions which tend to be way right of centre and therefore not representative.
It was also perfectly reasonable for Limmy to mention that he was in the Probation Service as it is relevant to his having access to details of the breach of conditions that occurred.
As for a tabloid quoting a tame QC making assumptions with no facts to back them up, I wouldn't even waste the time taken to read it - soundbytes put there to sell copy.

Presumably so. It Is well documented that Venebles was deeply troubled and from a 'Toxic' family Enviroment. Is 8 years enough to un-do the damage of the first ten years of his life. We only have the so called experts view on that.
I don't know If you saw a documentary a few nights ago called 'Why did you kill my dad'? It was bringing Into question the so called experts who deem the physcotic fit to live In the community only for them to randomly kill strangers.
I myself do not believe any probation officer or any other human being Is fit to pass judgement as to weather It is safe to let some-one back on the streets after they have murdered. The statistics of the mentally Ill re-offending are fairly high. It boils down to the fact that the public Is potentially put at risk based on a few people's assessment and this has been proved wrong many times.
Myself, I would rather see any-one who has killed spend at least 40 years In prison before release. 8 years Is a heck of a gamble to take with the public and the public have a right to know who they are living amongst. We do It with peadophiles. The risk to the public comes from the ridiculous nonsense of new Identities for killers at the tax payers expense. Every person In the UK has a right to know who they are living amongst and this Is typical of the namby Pamby Lefties who have put the rights of a child murderer before the rights of decent law abiding citizens.
If and I underline IF Venebles has commited another act, It totally trashes the namby pamby State who believe re-hab Is better than long prison terms. It also holds to account the so called experts who deemed him fit to live back In the Community. If he has commited another act, far more reaching questions will be raised to the Government In a crucial pre-Election Period. It will also call Into question the Proffessional ability of the so called experts who released him and God forbid one of them may lose their job. If this were any other case, everyone on this forum would be calling It a cover-up.
