To all the mums who have children that have forgotten to acknowledge the day, (gawd 'elp 'em when mum catches up wiv 'em ! )

And to all the mums who have children away from home, and to all the mums who have sadly lost their child or children.

Just remember that you will always be the best and their only mum in the world, regardless of circumstances !

Before I was a Mom

Before I was a Mom -

I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom -

I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom -

I had never been puked on - Pooped on - Spit on - Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom -

I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests...or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom -

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life

so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom -

I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom -

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Here in the States, Mother's Day will be celebrated again in May. :)

Happy Mothers Day to you!

In memory of my mother, my grandmothers and my son, who wait for me in heaven. :yh_flower

Oh AFTR what lovely words ! Bless you and thank you so much for sharing them with us ! :-6 It seems strange that our Mothering Sundays (Mothers' Day) should be on such different days! You will have to put up a thread when your Mothers' Day occurs, because some of us are bound to forget it :o :D

Mothers Day is the first Sunday in May, in Australia.

Mothering or Refreshment Sunday was originally a Church festival half way through the 40 days of Lent, and a kind of break from Lenten fast. It honoured the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. In the old days, apprentices were given the day off to visit their mother. There were flowers and simnel cake, and the church colours were softened from purple to pink.

Happy Mothers Day to all for whom it is appropriate!!! I'll have to wait till May myself.

GUFFAW nothing! I was being serious. Of course, I'm a trivia freak so I appreciate any new facts I can gather to add to my collection.

I found this info:

"In England, the Simnel cake is especially associated with the 4th Sunday in Lent called Refreshment, Rose, or Mothering Sunday. That day was the older version of Mother's Day. Children of all ages were expected to pay a formal visit to their mothers and to bring a Simnel cake as a gift. In return, the mothers gave their children a special blessing. This custom was so well-established that masters were required to give servants enough time off to visit out-of-town mothers - provided the trip did not exceed 5 days!

The Simnel cake is also associated with "Holy Humour Sunday" or "Laughter Sunday" which is celebrated in certain places on the 4th Sunday in Lent, especially in North America, where "Mothering Sunday" has given way to "Mother's Day" (see Laughter Sunday)"

I like the "Laughter Sunday." Is Simnel cake very sweet? The recipe calls for lots of sugar.
