How's your Recollection?
How far back does your recollection go? I can only recollect things from when I was about 8-1/2 or 9 years old. My wife says she can remember things back to when she was 5 or maybe a even a little younger. (Her Mother verified what my wife remembered at that tender age)

How's your Recollection?
I've read that you can only remember back as far as about 5, apparently you only remember farther back if its a moment of immense joy or immense pain!
I remember two instances from when I was two years old. One was after my mother gave me some empty milk bottles (made of glass) to leave by the front door for the milkman to collect! (Yeah, I know! How stupid is it to tell a 2 year old to carry glass bottles!! :-5 ) Of course, I dropped them, they smashed and I had to go to the hospital to have glass removed from my arm (I still have the scars!) I remember laying (presumably on a trolley) in a corner of a room surrounded by people in white clothes and hats and screaming my head off! Apparently I was too young to have an anaesthetic! And they had to remove all the broken glass, clean the wound and stitch up my arm! Ouch!
My other memory is from when I was a bridesmaid at my aunts wedding. I was staying at my grandmothers house and all dressed up in my little bridesmaids dress with ribbons in my hair (I was 2! Lol!) and I remember I kept running to look out of the window to see if the big car had arrived to collect us and I remember the sheer excitement as it finally pulled up outside our front door!
I told my mum his story and she kept asking questions such as...what colour were the curtains at the window? or...what kind of furniture was in the room?...how the heck should I know? That wasn't exciting!
:-5 I like this smiley! It sums up my reaction to my mother ....for everything she does!

How's your Recollection?
Memory is different for everyone, I know my sister can hardly remember anything from her childhood. I can remember when I was 4, and wanted to ride my older brother's push car, and he wouldn't let me. I tattled to my mother, who made him share. But revenge would come later from my brother, he gave me a good punch in the arm for being a snitch. But it felt good to cruise his car while it lasted!

Amazing, your post just jogged my recollection of something that happened to me when I was about 7 or so.
It was "Easter time" here in the States, & my Mom bought me a new overcoat for Easter. Back in those days times were tough. Being economical, she got it 2 or 3 times larger than I needed it be, so that I would not "outgrow" it in a short period time. Well coming back from Easter Sunday Mass wearing my new overcoat, I was climbing up the 3 front steps leading into our house. And because the coat was so long I stepped on the front of it & tripped. Putting my hands out to try to stop falling, and in doing so I put them right through the Front Storm door "Glass" window! Luckily I had "gloves" on, so my hands were spared, but where the gloves ended on my wrists, is where I got a 3" gash. It was Easter Sunday, so we went to the E/R but it was loaded with people. So my folks took me to our "family" doctor, at "his house". He looked at the gash, and said oh yeah, stitches were definately needed. Being in his house, there was nothing of anykind for relieving pain. So the doctor made my folks hold me down tight, and proceeded to do his stitching job, with a curved needed that looked like a big metal pipe!!! If I knew any cus words, I sure would have been yelling them out, but I was too young for that! :wah:

How's your Recollection?
I remember two things from when I was four. The first was my brother needing to go to the hospital, and we had the neighbors kids over. They were about two. I somehow got all the kids' shoes on and got them out the door in fifteen minutes.
The other memory was from when I went I got my cheek bitopen by a dog. I was hurt so badly my face was just kind of gaping open...I guess I went into shock because I remember the blanket I was wrapped in, being fascinated with the crochet stitches, and I remember kicking and punching the doctor and peeing on the table, but I don't remember any pain from the bite or the stitches. Took five people to hold me down I was so freaked out. I think they put some sort of topical anaesthetic on my face since I had stitches by my eye, my mouth and from my nose to my jaw. They itched. I remember being really annoyed. I never felt pain though...I guess that's what shock does? They wouldn't even give me a sucker afterwards because I couldn't purse my mouth and they didn't want me to pull the stitches. Harumph.

How's your Recollection?
I can remember several things from when I was about 4...maybe 3. I remember the dog we had, I remeber my mother having me stay outside while she cleaned the floor in the house, I remember talking to the neighbor kid next door and I can remember my little sister climbing a cherry tree in the back yard and not being able to get back down again. I could go on.

-I dont know I cant remember!(ha ha)
-I can remember climbing out of the crib and I was so proud of myself, but my mom freaked out. (She kept me in a crib until 3)
-about 3 I'd say.

I remember being in the hospital. I was in a crib in a big room. Lots of crying. I remember being brought to the nurses station and being given an orange drink. I spilled it. She got me another and didnt yell at me. I remember asking her where my mommy and daddy were. She said at home in bed sleeping.
I was two. It was the night before I had my eyes operated on. I was born cross-eyed, you see.

I remember we had a huge old leather arm chair in our living room and a doctor coming to see me for some reason...I was 3 or 4.
I also remember my first day at school when I was 5...I was so scared that I couldn't ask to go to the toilet...I wet myself...a shocking memory of your first day at school !
My brother is 9 yrs older than me and my sister 7 years older. I have absolutely NO recollection of them at all until I was about 9 or 10 despite the fact that we shared the same bedroom until I was 10.
I do have a couple of memories of holiday days out...one in particular...I was about 6 and we had arranged to go somewhere and i woke up with chicken pox...my mum was livid because it spoiled the arrangements..
Worst memories...sitting at the top of the stairs hearing mum and dad rowing when I should have been in bed....I remember being scared. I don't think anyone ever knew I was there...i don't remember anyone coming to comfort me ....ahhhh...i got over it !
My memories are mainly from age 5 onwards. Arnold is right about memory....I quite often have 'senior moments' when my short term memory completely deserts me...It's weird...:-5

I'm sorry what was this all about, I have forgotten hehehehe
Wow you guys are amazing, I remember bits about when I had my tonsils removed.
I remember when I was about 6 going to Canmore (about an hours drive into the mountains) to extended families house and my aunts sister sat me on a cool tall stool and put french braids in my hair for the first time ever in my life. I felt like a fairy princess. I remember my brother and I chasing each other and he came after me on his hands and kness and no lie bit me in the arse ahahahahahaha Oh and another time I was at the chalk board and he behind me and he called my name, I turned around and Blam he shot me in the forehead with a wooden arrow from his toy set. Yeah the bugger removed the suction cup so it was nice and pointed and that thing left me a life scar between my eyes.

Probably my earliest memory I was about 3 or 4 and I told my parents
I didn't want to die and they were all freaked out... have zero idea what
caused THAT!
And I remember daddy getting home from work, and me running to him
outside and him lifting me up and letting me search his shirt pockets for
candy or gum he kept there... at some point I remember not wanting his
arm to hike up my skirt 'cause then all the neighbors could see my ruffled
panties!!
I remember (again about age 4) when my baby sister was there and I told
Mom "I don't WANT that old baby take that old baby back to the hospital"
slight bit of jealousy perhaps?
I vividly remember when it first "clicked" with me and I KNEW what reading
was... I was 4 or so and sitting on the bedroom floor with my back
against my bed when I said out loud "Oh that's what that means"! and
I knew I had read words. My mom actually thought I could read even
earlier than that, because she read to me and I memorized what words
she said when she turned the page!!
A traumatic memory from age 4 (gee, I guess that was a really big year
for Val!
) was when I had my tonsils out. It hurt so much and mom
told me I broke my daddy's heart, asking him "For the MILLIONTH time
Daddy can I PLEASE have a drink of water" and he couldn't give me any.
Daddy who always gave me what I wanted! (all the ice cream you want
was sure a joke... it hurt going down, too!)
;)

Well l can remember being in the family room of mt grandparents house and sitting in a rocking chair. It was right next to the hearth of the fire. I can sort of remember wanting the bathroom and deciding l would go and tell my Gran, so l tried to get out of the chair. Only l was tiny and had a few problems getting off. I slipped and cracked my head open on the hearth. I ran into the kitchen to tell my Gran l had an ouchie and she nearly passed out because of the blood on my face.
And so began my long accident prone childhood.....
I was about 2/3 at the time.
