I'm having a crap week...

I've managed to put my phone through the washing machine. For some strange reason it's not working anymore :-2:(:-1

Any bets on whether it will ever work again?

Well you never know BB! I would put it somewhere safe where it can thoroughly dry out. Not sure whether it would be a good idea to remove the battery and make sure the terminals are dry. Perhaps there's somebody online here who could advise you as to what is the best thing to do. I also might remove the sim card and make sure that is dry and keep it somewhere safe till the phone has dried out. The phone is solid state, so one would think that so long as it is able to be dried out thoroughly, it should work OK, but there again it depends on the temperatures the phone has had to endure :-3

Bit of a drastic way to make sure all incoming calls are clean !!!!

Joking apart, BB, you must feel devastated really! It can happen to any of us, as it is so easy to miss a small mobile phone tucked in a jeans pocket, and they're not cheap either.

Nowadays, the mobile phone is as important as your own independent transport.

Battery is out, sim is out and dried and working in another old handset. The screen is full of water and the whole thing is currently sitting in a bowl of rice. Fingers crossed hey.

Don't get me onto transport, waiting for a dent in the back to be repaired by the insurance and I can only turn left at the moment. Better get back to the ironing before the iron packs up :rolleyes:

oh dear you are having a lot of bad luck

its been a bit of a funny year so far for me and mine actually, Hubs is also still waiting on insurance after someone went in to the side of him a couple of weeks ago,, just came straight out of a junction:rolleyes: luckily it was coming out of a supermarket car park so wasnt going as fast as it could have been:driving: I hope you get yours sorted out soon and, ye phone too:-6

Mine was back in Feb!! A woman in a van drove up my backside just as I was pulling out of a roundabout, she's taken all responsibility and her insurance will cover all the costs of my repairs. Fair enough, only I'd like it repaired before I reach 50 :rolleyes:. I would have traded her in by now as well if it wasn't for that damn woman!

While I'm having a moan, my daughter is continuously picking up head lice, I am combing her every three days and removing loads of them. What is the point in me doing that if other mothers can't be bothered, she is constantly coming in with huge clodhoppers in her hair that I know damn well did not grow on her head! I spend an hour each time going through her hair, dividing it all up and thoroughly checking, a quick rake over with the comb is not good enough! :-5

To add to the joys I found some beasts in my hair this morning, I am not amused

Try using a hair dryer on it, BB. Take as much of it apart as possible first and dry each piece separately. do you guys use hair dryers over there?

oh god head lice:eek: i had that with my son once,, i did his head, went to the school and told them ,, they said oh we dont have them checked now. He got them straight back ,, i went back up and said do you not even send out a letter to tell parents,, get them all to check etc,, .. they said we will tell the ones in his class,,,like they dont go out to play fgs lol and mix with others. The third time i went up and said i want something done im not having this every week!!! to be honest if shes getting them back quick each time its got to be someone she is quite freindly with innit

Yes my husband is claiming on the other insurance too and they also admitted full liability, thing is his is a taxi so it needs doing soon as ,, its drivable still but the council are on him to have it repaired . :-2

We do have hair dryers yes Ahso. So far it's sitting in the rice and I'll check it in the morning. Tried taking it apart but other than the battery back and removal of the sim it doesn't want to come apart any further, it's a slide phone and I don't want to force it and completely break it.

Rice naturally attracts moisture, uncooked rice Ahso lol you always place a few grains of rice in the salt pot, stops the salt becoming moist

I have some more rice that I will be cooking to go with my curry tonight though.

I also put a little uncoooked rice in my salt shaker to help keep the salt dry.

It is never surprising at the strokes some pull to get out of an insurence claim. A woman hit my car in a private lane where she shouldn't have been while my car was stationary. It was a closed case but then she backtracked and told police it was actually all my fault and i hit her. Quite amazing given that i was not in the car at the time. Recently a pal was also hit and although the woman told him it was her fault, she then blamed him to the insurence company dragging out the claim. Why can't people just own up and be done with it?

As for the nits, when i was caretaker at the school, the parents told me that slathering the hair in hair conditioner, covering in a towel, leaving overnight and combing the hair out in the morning before washing the hair apparently suffocates the little blighters and the problem is gone.

I almost forgot to say. I had the same problem with the mobile phone when the wife thought it would be a huge wheeze to ride the log flume and my phone got drenched. Mine did eventually dry out on the radiator and has performed since.

Betty, Betty, rice will do no good in this situation. The rice absorbs the moisture only when it is in contact with the moisture, but it will not draw the water out of your phone. The water will drip out the same whether it is in rice or not. For the water that will not drip out of your phone you must make something absorbent pass thru the phone to come in contact with the water and absorb the moisture. Dry air is the only substance that will do that. Use the hair dryer, you silly goose you!

Or sit it on the radiator (provided the radiator is on of course!). I would have thought that a hot hair drier would have been a tad too hot for a mobile phone, but perhaps not. However, a person would have to be there with the drier, which is a little labour intensive. :-3

She doesn't appear to have changed her mind, I even have a solicitors letter that states that she admits full responsibility so maybe sometime soon it will get repaired.

The nits are currently being smothered with a 'leave on' conditioner so hopefully this one will work.

I do hope the conditioner is the trick for you.

It's just a thought here but i was wondering if you could threaten a late payment charge? Ask your solicitor if this link would apply for you. I hope this may be of some help as they may decide to settle far quicker at the thought of you going for extra charges for late payment.
