Guns are important tools to keep the very small minority that control way too much capital and property in check, and worried about hoe blatantly they put the boot of power and control on the neck of the worker class.

So when are the serfs in america going to rise up in revolt?

You'd know after the event, anyway... "Here is the news. An armed insurrection by a number of red-necked peasants who had been indulging in un-american activities was put down by the National Guard. There were no survivors. The FBI are investigating the matter".

You come across as being paranoid and living in fear I don't think you are But I would not want to put up with a situation where I am so afraid I need to carry a gun all the time.

Judging from some of the posts here you are all living in fear, worried about big government but are happy to live at the mercy of big corporations and god help anybody that falls on hard times through illness because nobody else seems to think it is something that should be their concern.

Personally i prefer a country where the police don't carry guns and where traditionally in peacetime we have a small army. It would actually be quite difficult for the UK government to use the army at home against it's own people just for that reason alone.

You have your own traditions and history you need to work out solutions for yourselves but don't assume the UK is like the states but with different accents. It's a whole different ballgame in the UK context.

It was one of the reasons but the main one was it was legally owned guns that were used in mass shootings. The reason for the demand to ban airguns is because little shits are opening fire on babies in prams with a weapon they can walk in off the street and buy. You still haven't made a case for how the gun ban has made things worse.

Like most blokes in the UK I find military history fascinating. On the other hand someone who is obsessed by guns and knives and carries around a knife or wants to carry a gun has go serious problems of self esteem. I'm not saying you are mentally challenged or mentally disturbed but as UK voter I don't want you having access to weapons and will take action to prevent it. I was one of the signatories to the snowdrop petition. I was also one of the scots who kicked every single tory MP out of scotland. the Dunblane massacre was one of the factors in that 1997 election and anger at a government that wouldn't listen.

As it happens I know lots of people that have guns, gamekeepers and the like , including high powered rifles for shooting deer. The hand gun ban bothers them not at all because they have little interest in shooting people. and a shotgun does a lot of damage anyway.

I am not living in fear of anything but big government. I was raised around guns, hunters and outdoorsmen and just happen to LIKE guns. And, I believe people should do for themselves and their family as much as possible.

My dad was an antique weapons collector and hunter. His greatest joy was hearing someone had an old gun or guns, tracking them down and striking a deal. The hunt was his prime interest. After he "won" his game he usually lost interest in the arms and used them as trading stock or sold them to other collectors. He passed that onto me.

My world is fast disappearing and I don't like what is replacing it. I thank God I got in on the tail end of a better world. I don't expect to last much longer. Too many health issues and a distrust of doctors and lack of funds. No, I don't want charity or government "help". I'm old enough, seen some great times so, God will decide what's next for me.:)

If a revolt is large enough, you don't really think the guard would fire on crowds which might contain family members or neighbors, do you? If the revolt were massive enough, I think government would call for foreign troops of some sort. I hold out hope that many in our military would desert their ranks with as many of the best weapons available to them and join the side of the people.

The cost is simply human happiness and freedom is too high for me.

Islam needs to get with the modern world. We have science and social progression including the liberation of women and gays. Catch the #&(< up.

And Israel needs to get over the psychopathic belief that they have a god given right to other people's land. No, you #&(<@^$, your interpretation of a fairy tale is not a basis for ethnic cleansing, theft and oppression.

Controlled, probably yes. (Although the neocons took it on the chin a bit after the fall of Bush 2.0; it wouldn't surprise me if they has less influence when the party is next in control).

But padded by the masses of useful idiots including a lot of young earth creationists. And YEC is a side effect of taking the bible way too literally. Plus being anti-science.

Christianity often is just as bad as Islam. Any religion that twist arms for new members -- and there are sects of Christianity that fall under that classification -- has serious problems and needs to grow up.

I am also against the discrimination against anyone over expressions of normal human sexuality like homosexuality, and the time is long overdue for us women not to tolerate discrimination in the workplace or any other part of society.

No. Guns are never used for that in the West, except where they are remarkably ineffective and counter-productive.

To control the powers that be you have democratic rights, and a free press.

My perception is that Christianity is seldom but occasionally as bad as Islam at producing militants.

By the same token, at producing ethical people, Christianity is seldom as good as Islam.

Yeah, us X-Gen fought hard for better gender equality. The Y don't care so much though. They're happy to live more traditionally. It seems to be working for them.

We made some progress for gay rights that I don't think will be reversed though. Not full equality yet though.

Yay us.

Well here, hear it from the horses mouth that wrote it....

Quotes from the Founding Fathers and Their Contemporaries

A pinch of wisdom from the Founders with a dash of commentary.

One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.

--- Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, 1796. The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, (Memorial Edition) Lipscomb and Bergh, editors.

No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

---Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

---Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

Quotes from the Founders During the Ratification Period of the Constitution the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.

---James Madison,The Federalist Papers, No. 46. To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, countries or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws.

---John Adams, A Defence of the Constitutions of the United States 475 (1787-1788)
"If America Was A Tree, The Left Would Root For The Termites...Greg Gutfeld."

Now that is funny. That sums it up nicely. :)
