I'd woken up and a family friend had stopped by and had told me about it...

I'd then seen the second plane go into the South Tower...

At first glance I'd thought they were showing a replay of the initial attack...

That's what I thought too. My son was only 5 yrs old and we were watching tv and boom. I turned it off and put a movie in the dvs for him, but listened to the radio out in the kitchen.

At home getting ready for work. I had the TV on the TODAY SHOW. I happened to walk by it and saw Katie Couric talking she had a look of fear on her face. I stopped and listened and then I saw the second plane crash into the Tower and all hell broke out. :-1

I'd just woke up - started down the hallway, my husband stopped me with tears in his eyes.

OMG, what - planes flew into ...

ran to the TV - again like Snyder said, I thought I was watching a reply.. wrong..

what a ugly reality / scar on my heart

I was at work when my wife phoned me up in tears to tell me.

We all went to the staff TV and watched in horror as it unfolded - tragic day.

I was taking a late lunch break in Hobgoblin and there was a radio announcement of the second WTC building being hit and everything in the shop went very quiet.

I had flown home from a Pennsylvania airport the day before. Flight got in late so I was sleeping in when my husband called to tell me to turn on the TV. I saw the 2nd plane hit as well.

My husband and I had decided that our children were old enough to stay home alone while we went on our first grown up holiday together.

We were at the Chateau Tiffauges in France our children were 1300km away.

As we sat by the car eating lunch the radio was interrupted by an hysterical French announcer going on about 2 explosions in NY and I heard WTC and planes.

We quickly tuned into the BBC world service and heard the news properly from them.

I was standing in my office looking out the window and saw the second plane crash into the tower. As I stared in disbelief the towers crumbled before my eyes. For days thereafter I watched the smoke rising from the rubble.

I was at the dentist's office waiting room, watching the news. I was going through the required checkups before retiring from the Air Force.

I bet that was a bit more personal for you during the event of retiring from a force that is primarily the force that defends such attacks...

I was in my office at work when my wife called me and told me that a plane just hit the WTC building! So I rushed down to the company's caf, where they had several large screen TV's. A massive crowd was there watching the smoking building on all the TV's. I said out loud, that was no accident, that was intentional! And just a few minutes later the second plane hit the second WTC building! We could not believe it, and everyone's hearts just broke, people could not stop sobbing!!! After a few minutes begrudgingly, I went back to my office, as I was preparing for a business conference call with the company VP. Within minutes my wife called me again to tell me about the plane that went down in PA, and also about the plane that slamed into the Pentagon building!!! It was nightmarish, like a bad dream!!!! I then became so upset, I cancelled my call, & I went home to be with my wife!

After that cowardly event, "The World as we knew it", had just changed forever!!! Nothing would ever be the same again!!!

The feeling was strange. The full weight of our mission was suddenly very real. You could hear a pin drop in the crowded lobby. Everybody knew what it meant. I wasn't surprised when my retirement got put on hold. I was kept active for another 8 months.

I was at home in Florida, my daughter was 6 months old at the time and I'd normally have one of the morning shows on. I was walking across the living room holding her and glanced at the tv just as they were showing a close up of the smoke coming out of the first tower. :(

I was at home making a late breakfast. I remember Mr Oscar was outside the house for some reason.

I had the t.v. on but not paying much attention. I could hear an announcer shouting. I looked at the t.v. and the plane had already gone in the first tower.

I truely believed i was watching a commercial for a film. Then i saw the 2nd plane go in.

I ran outside and shouted at Mr oscar. We sat glued to the t.v. and i remember Mr Oscar keep saying, this can't be real.

It was a little like the morning we woke to find Diana dead. We watched the towers come down and i just don't remember any of the coverage after that. We took the day off work, we just couldn't go in. We sat watchung t.v. all day and night.

Absoluetly horrible.

I woke up late that day. My BF's daughter called us and told us that someone was bombing the WTC. So we turned on the television. And of course there it was....a plane running into the tower. I said "No this is just a movie, tell her it is just a movie". But there was something so ominous about it....I changed the channel....same movie. I could hardly believe it. It seemed so surreal. It took awhile for it to sink in that this had really happened.

Working and listening to the radio.

Talking with customers about what just transpired then getting new info on more crashes and trying to comprehend it all.

What a surreal day that was.

Malls were closing, police were buzzing everywhere.

The President disappeared in Air Force One.

I was alseep and my husband came in and said that I needed to get up and watch this. I thought it was a movie as well. It was too horrible to think it was for real. Then as I watched, the second plane hit the next tower. There was total silence in the house. We could not believe what we just saw! We both stayed home and watched TV all day and just tried to sort it all out in our minds and also worried about what might happen next.

I also went and retreived my daughters from school that day because at that point nobody knew where the 4th plane was (it crashed in PA)...I also had a newborn at the time (Quin) and it just felt safer to have all my kidlets home. They were very confused about the whole thing and so I put movies in for them to watch instead. At night hubs & I watched it all...so surreal it was and the skys were quiet for a week after that, but we did see lots of military jets flying over. We live near the Philadelphia International Airport so you can imagine the noise of planes everyday, but it was super quiet.

I was in class teaching. The news was delayed by the principal, out of deference to me. My husband was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day in a meeting, and unknown to me the yard kept him from going due to an incoming vessel that needed attention. (we all know each other's business at school) The principal came to see me first, after tracked down my husband, and the principal told me he was at the yard, and that an announcement was forthcoming. What a shock to hear it, it is one of the days you never forget.

I was working in Dublin. The whole site stopped and listened to the radio for a while. We then went to the pub over the road and watched it all unfold on the big screen. I felt quite sick

I was at work, I remember thinking there will be war over this... strange how right you can be sometimes. Altough I had heard about it I still thought A disaster movie was on the telly when I arrived home from work it was so surreal when I looked again saw it was on the BBC news channel.

On the 11th Sept I was talking on the phone to someone in Atlanta when the phones suddenly cut off, contacted her by email when could not reconnect. At the moment it seems the US cut all communication with the outside world for a short time.....

My phones were in full working order that day....called the school and said I'm coming to retrieve my daughters....they thought at the time it would be safer to keep them there...um no way.:-3 I do remember it was a very warm day too, so I set up the video movies & filled up the pool....they were very young then so it was a nice day for them as I refused to put the scare into them.

I think it was just calls from the US to the rest of the world - the thing I remember most is the feeling of fear and confusion I perceived from Atlanta although it is many miles from the terrorist attacks, yes I think here in the UK we were saddened and appalled by the attacks but I think we are hardened to a certain extent by the IRA troubles and tend to handle terrorist atrocities with a certain amount of calm...

I was in Madeira on holiday, we had landed just the day before, and we had gone to a local shop to get milk for breakfast and wondered what they were all talking about in the shop until the owner told us, and pointed to the tv in the corner. We just stood in total disbelief at what we were seeing:-1
