To Kill a Mockingbird - 50 this year.
I bet I've bought this book at least 15 times in my adult life. I read it again, start talking about it to someone, find out they've never had the pleasure and I pass it on.
It gave me my love of reading.
And of course Atticus was the father of my dreams.:-4
How in the world could that book have been followed up? I can't imagine being satisfied with anything I produced after , had that been my first effort.

It is the coolest book, and so wise and ahead of its time. You could read it over and over again, and gather a new nugget of learning. (and the movie was great too Nomad, in case you haven't seen it)

The movie is one of the best renderings of a book I've ever watched.

Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.-Atticus Finch to Scout, To Kill A Mockingbird.
The poem is from the courtroom scene.
From The Balcony
brown eyes lifted up to heaven
as his chain rattles with tears,
melody of courtroom bantering
sung to beat of an ancient tune
grown weary with its own cadence
sung over and over again
rhythm pitched low
that wafts between each heartbeat,
the jury waves their fans
half-heartedly in time to each measure
slowly played out before them,
looking for a reprieve from the inevitable task
that burdens each one
breeze of fresh harmony
meanders between audience’s chairs,
Atticus pitch rises and falls
as his words swirl past deaf ears,
the balcony looks down with hope
as justice turns her back
and innocence remains bound
they rise for the final anthem
as he leaves their mortal presence
into the shades of another time,
when they will hear the song
and join in its jubilation
but for now,
only the mockingbird sings

I was NOT much of reader back in the day, But it was really good. Greg. Peck and the rest of the cast was also awsome in the movie. It is far from a chick, flick or book.

One of the themes of the book is living in a neighborhood where there is someone a little different.........a little strange. Someone folks whisper about and avoid. Like Boo. Have you ever known someone like that?
