Why should Israel be allowed to secure it's borders? The USA won't secure it's borders.

But what is your opinion of an attack by heavily armed military on civilian ships in international waters ?

Secure its borders?

Attack unarmed ships in international waters carrying food and medical supplies to an autonomous state.

Little more than piracy, certainly state sponsored terrorism, and rightly called foul by the international community.

And what was the purpose of all the "activists"? They knew a blockade was on. The Israeli's don't know what all is in those ships.

If you do not know why the "activists" were desperate enough to try to get supplies into Gaza then you are in no position to comment on what happened.

Given the efficiency of Mosad and the openness with which the flotilla was put together is it not believable that the Israelis did not know what was on board - it is their avowed intent to stop all supplies getting into Gaza, no pretence of restricting the blockade to possible weapons.

US reaction: Cracks appear in America's other special relationship - Americas, World - The Independent

It has probably strengthened Hamas and further weakened the Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President – and added even more weight to the unprecedented warning of General David Petraeus, the top US military commander for the region, that the failure to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian dispute was damaging America's security interests across the Middle East.

How about "Israel attacks unarmed merchant ships of nato ally in international waters" What if next time the turks decide to send in escorting warships. It's not as there won't be other convoys is it. It would be a fool that believes otherwise. Right now the US needs turkish support more than it does israel's, be interesting to see what happens if they start shooting at each other.

Maybe Turkey shouldn't have let themselves get involved in the first place.

Kind of hard for them not to be if you look at the history of the region. You're not talking about some third world country here you know.

There will be other flotillas, israel will have to back down or start a shooting war. Who knows peaceful protest might achieve what all the terrorists haven't been able to, mind you palestinian terrorism started because peaceful protest wasn't working.
