Jonathan Metz got his arm stuck in a "furnace" (GB=domestic water heater?) that he was trying to repair, and tried to cut it off to release himself (or to prevent the spread of gangrene, or both).

What a singularly odd story. How on earth can gangrene set in over just 48 hours? Was he "working to replace the boiler fins on his furnace" with the boiler lit?
