Seldom do I watch horror movies but I watched this one because it had Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. I found it predictable and a bit boring. There's better movies to spend your time and money on.

How do they compare with Lon Chaney Junior?

Dunno. Don't watch enough horror flicks to make comparisons. Do have one favorite though. "Christine".

Hubby and I did watch this movie last weekend. The settings and the atmosphere were great. Violent at times. To me. the film left some unanswered questions.
(Possible spoilers)
Why were certain characters killed? Members of the family?
The creature the father found that started the family curse............what the heck was it?
Why was the son sent away as a boy?
Disturbing and moody film.

John Carpenter knew how to make great flicks.
