Specifically a BC dweller.

Our government recently pushed through a tax combination that puts federal(GST) tax and provincial (PST) tax together in something called (HST) which existed previously on the east coast but has now been imposed in Ontario and BC. What does this mean? The government would tell you it means business no longer have to file two separate returns and that it doesn't mean an increase in tax... which is a bold face lie. PST was never applied to services, only goods, while GST applied to both. Now the province is extra taxing all the services that used to be exempt.

So, why am I proud?

BC is the first province to successfully gather enough signatures to recall a government policy. Sure they're fighting it and trying to find a way to disqualify the protest and it may never make a difference to the law but DAMN it!!! My part of the world is not hopelessly apathetic.

I should hope not, hopeless apathy is no good at all.

millitant apathy.... thats the way to go.

I remember when my local branch of The League Of Apathy had at least three members, sadly that is no longer the case, and the tri yearly meetings that used to be such a shining event and eagerly anticipated is now no more, due to lack of interest.

this HST is bull****, as if we don't pay enough tax's, now this.:-5

Plus in Toronto, our property tax's are raised 3% each year.

Were all signing here as well, but its not going to do any good, once the government makes up its mind, that's it.
Life is just to short for drama.

Congratulations! It's great to see even more people getting involved to fight back against onerous taxes.

As you probably know, they are talking about VAT taxes here in the states. It's a bad idea because it does not address the main problem: Government Spending - Lack of Government Accountability.

While it is O.K. (is it?) for some states to pay their vendors with IOU's, God help you if you pay their income tax, payroll taxes, sales tax, unemployment insurance, work development, corporate taxes, or charter taxes with that same IOU. You'll end up in jail.

If we are really really lucky and get involved, we'll never have to learn about VAT Exemptions, VAT Thresholds, or VAT Certificates.
