Yes we know, hoppy. And I can twist anything you say to fit my own views by taking it out of context and splicing it together like you did. I was going to refrain from fanning this fire, but did you read the entire piece? I did. He was talking about the difficulty in fitting in with multiple cultures and how he and his friend Joyce felt about that. So are you actually holding it against him that he tries to understand other cultures? Isn't that what we would want from our leaders?

Or is there no room in your world view for other cultures at all?

And Nomad's right, so what if he did say something radical in college? Didn't we all? You, yourself probably said plenty of inflammatory and radical things, after all... you still do. :D

As you said, "In his own words." lol.:D

Just out of curiosity, what have you got against the American President, hoppy? Surely you don't want to return to the disastrous last eight years. The NEOCON economic greed-agenda darned near destroyed the planet, over four thousand Americans lie dead from an illegal war in Iraq, our honor was besmirched by torture, and even our Allies from WWII turned against us.

Now, we have a President that doesn't murder our language when he speaks, has reformed health care, has passed new regulations on Wall street, has mended broken fences with our allies, and a TON of other things, all while battling the Party of NO who have quit trying to fix the mess they made and have actively decided that it's better to just stop progress.

Here's the TOP 100 Accomplishments of President Obama:

Here is a bullshitter--unleashed, unperfumed, and unashamed."

100 Accomplishments of President Barack Obama

18mar

2010

After that disastrous hatchet job of an interview Bret Baier did with the president last night, I had to quell my urge to go upside Baier's head with a 2 X 4 and slowly work my way back to a more positive state of mind.

Progressive - Understands the need for change and does not fear it.

Conservative - fears change and doesn't understand it.

I completely understand why conservatives like you hoppy fear change. Wouldn't it be so much nicer if we could turn back the clock to the 1950s when children were polite, crime was almost nonexistent, our enemies were obvious, and life was so much cheaper, clearer, and simpler?

But you can't turn back the clock, hoppy, and even if we could would you give up modern medicine, the internet, cell phones, and a million other inventions and social reforms for it? No, you might tell yourself that you would, but you really wouldn't like it. Conservatives are like men who fantasize living alone on a desert island. It might sound great on paper, but the reality is a nightmare.

Progressives (I prefer that to Liberal, it's much more descriptive of me) understand that it's Mother Nature's law that nothing can stagnate. If you do not change and adapt in nature, you die, plain and simple. America may not resemble your childhood fantasies, as a matter of fact, it may be far from what you'd like, but to stay alive and vibrant as a culture, America must adapt and change. I suspect that the future America will be far beyond both of our imaginations in both good ways and bad ways...

But that's reality and it's a good thing.

Hmmm..."Socialist" the 21st century catch-phrase of the unenlightened. What ever happened to "Commie" or better yet, "Pinko?"

do you mean "Socialist" as in Social Security Administration and United States Post Office?

or "Socialist" as in your local police department and fire department?

All of those are literally socialist organizations.

My guess is that he means Socialist as in National Socialist - wayyyy too left wing to be tolerated!

I certainly have the impression that the Neo-Cons are about the Republican Party first, last and always. Then they are about making sure they personally stay rich. America comes a poor third in their priorities (and I might have got priorities 1 and 2 the wrong way round).

Seems to me that they want Obama to fail, that they are actively working to make him fail, and they'd happily condemn America to misery and poverty as long as they get power and wealth.

This is, of course, an outsider's view.

Actually if you look at neocon economic and foreign policies they could reasonably be described as fascist.

Mind you ron paul thinks obama is a variation on the theme of corporatist america

Ron Paul: Obama Is Another Corporatist, Not a Socialist

In this classical sense, Obama is clearly not a socialist. Nothing he has done, not even in the recent healthcare bill, seems aimed at abolishing private ownership of the means of production.

Much of what he has done since taking office, however, has vastly increased government control over the means of production — e.g., when he personally demands that a CEO step down (think General Motors). Is this what we mean by corporatism? Ron Paul described the healthcare bill as containing many corporatist provisions: “We see [corporatism] in the financial institutions, we see it in the military-industrial complex. And now we see it in the medical-industrial complex.”

Corporatism is often seen as monopolistic capitalism in which business and governmental elites partner with each other. This isn't too far from the mark. Business elites possess what we might call the power of the purse — they have the money. Governmental elites possess what we might call the power of the sword — they write the rules. We might debate which one, if either, is truly dominant since both scratch each other’s backs and benefit handsomely from having thwarted both genuine marketplace competition and a truly open political and electoral process.

Corporatism hardly began with the current administration, of course, or its predecessor. In an article published in 2002, which deserves far more attention than it has ever received, commentator Robert Locke outlined the basic ideas behind corporatism and traced some of its history and influence.

maybe america could do with a few socialists in government as a counterweight to all that right wing rhetoric and economic policies.

Obama and his party own the government so far, and they're STILL FAILING. All by themselves.

Define "failing"

Given the state of failure they took over from the last lot, it is not surprising that the country is still in a mess - that is has not collapsed completely should be counted as a success.
