Do You Have a Right to a Job?
Do You Have a Right to a Job?
Yesterday's press showed a picture of a teenager carrying a sign that said "A Job is a Right" Do you feel that we have a right to a job?
We have discussed on this Forum in the past as to whether or not education, housing, medical benefits are right or a privilege. What's your thoughts on this one?

Do You Have a Right to a Job?
In this economy where we have retirees coming out of retirement to greet folks at walmart in order to pay their medical deductibles or get those extra veggies for this weeks table that their unemployed kids are sitting around... nope.
Our local fast food restaurants are now manned by the no longer retired and special needs kids who didn't judge the work to be beneath them.
A job is a privilege, IMO. Folks need to go back to being grateful to have one again, rather then spending their days scheming for the free ride.

Do You Have a Right to a Job?
I couldn't agree more Floppy well said. !!
I'm the oldest person in our office and I can work 6 times faster and get more done in a day then the young peopld do in a week.Young people today think they are owed everything, complain constantly, and want everything handed to them on a silver plater. Most of them have no idea what it is to work hard day in and day out. The free ride is over, hard work and appreciating your job is back if you don't there are 20 people will to take your job and work their behinds off everyday for less.

ALOHA!!

Do You Have a Right to a Job?
When a goverment says to you . " you are not entitled to unemployment benefits " ...then yes a government has to provide you with a job. So yes it is a right. No government has a right to have you starve.

The fact that somone is willing to work their behinds off for less is disgusting. Don't judge the worker, judge the employer who is taking the mick out of people and their situation . Christ you guys, you are put in this position by people who have taken you for a ride and you blame those who are the very victims of these people ...... this is the kind of talk of the 1930's . What has happened to you people?

Nope.
But depending on where that kid was...there was a respectable politcal movement over here in the '60s and '70s that said there was a right to a job and that idea has never really died. Though it is more a political aspiration than anything else.
Also, as Carla has said, new kids in the workforce often don't have a clue. But I'd be fairly sure that each generation says that about the next. I'm not sure there really is a way to prepare kids for what is, after all, a bt of a shock. We can tell them that work is tough, but it is easy for them to dismiss something as far away as a year ahead, and it is all too easy just to scare them.
And each generation produces its go-getters. Millionaires before they are twenty, etc, etc.

The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"
Lone voice: "I'm not."

Do You Have a Right to a Job?
My humble opinion Is that It Is the duty of any Elected Government to ensure that the economy Is strong enough to supply future generations with work. We have not seen this In the past 2 decades with Industries being closed for favour of cheap Foreign Imports from the EU.
I also believe that since we have free higher education and In some cases a 35% pass rate for University, we are mass producing a line of dummies for the Dole queue when they leave.
From my own perspective, those leaving school now In this country seem to have no aspirations. I encounter teenagers that can barely string a sentence together let alone get a work ethic.
The past 12 years have produced a legacy of welfare dependant parents who's children grow up to believe this Is a way of life.
Only recently, a study showed that In some families, up to 3 generations are benefit dependant. Only when the system has had a major over-haul will the future generation have a desire to work for the things they want In life Instead of expecting the Government to pay out.

Well said Oscar and the same is true in this country with a slight curve in who gets the benefits as most of our state and governments benefits go to people who aren't even citizens of this country and never will be they come here have a baby and bingo everyone gets aid. They get food, shelter, medical care and much more. Yes we have generations of mother who just have babies for the benefits and live off the system.
My pride wouldn't allow me to live off government benefits. I was raised in a era that didn't have government freebies of any kinds till I was in my late 20's. You worked and worked hard sometimes 2 jobs to feed yourself and your family and no one helped me find my jobs or paid me to get them.

What's happened to us is that we've worked hard our entire life and find ourselves unable to get ahead because now, in addition to raising my family and caring for them, the world thinks they are entitled to have me work to take care of theirs also. What's wrong is the attitude that comes through your post... that it's someone else's fault. It's always someone else's fault anymore, has anyone else noticed?
Well, it's our own fault. At some point we have to have the balls to say the free ride is over folks. someone has to be politically incorrect enough to say that the 'haves' are entitled to their 'have' and that if you want your own 'have' get off your ass and work for it.
What's wrong is that we have folks immigrating that will take any job. Have any of you traveled lately? I've traveled three times this year and each hotel was being run by foreigners. They are working their ass off to chase that American dream and our own kids can't be bothered!

Do You Have a Right to a Job?
I believe that a job is worth what someone is willing to pay and what someone is willing to accept? Why? Because if no one accepted a job because the pay was too low then the offerer would have to pay more. It doesn't matter if the pay is not enough to LIVE ON. That is not the responsibility of the offerer. Let's not make the offerer (employer) the bad guy here. Some people can't stand the fact that Sports Figures and Entertainers make mega bucks for what they do. Sure they deserve it, after all, someone is willing to pay them those big bucks and they are willing to accept. Don't pay the big ticket prices to see these Sports and Entertainment Figures and watch their income drop big time. Also don't buy the products that these figures endorse.
