Kathy Ellen is correct. Sorry, Lon.

Though Christian missionaries didn't invent this position (evidence of it exists in art that long predates the Christian era), they were the inspiration for the name. Early Christian teachings said women needed to be subordinate to men (even during sex), and that other positions were sinful and unclean. Ancient missionaries taught this position as the only and proper way to have sex. The early Greeks, Romans, Peruvians, Indians, Chinese, and Japanese also associated this position with the dominant status of men over women in their societies. Fortunately, people are now more open and creative than this.

The link isnt working because the "n" from the end of "position" in the web address is missing. Type that in and you get the correct page

One of the downsides for this position for the woman...........

"On the other hand, Sacha Tarkovsky warns women against using the missionary position when having sex for the first time, as "You are not in control, and it will be more painful and you cannot do anything but lay [sic] there and take it."

Could be why some women seem cold when the there is no "thrill" in it for them.

I wonder if there is any difference in the denomination of the the missionary----for example----Baptist Missionaries vs. Methodist Missionaries--is there a difference in technique? Or how about Seventh Day Adventists Vs. Mormons? Jehovah Witnesses? Anglicans and Lutherans? Surely there have been some in depth studies that make any comparisons. Atheists-----------wow----what do they do?

Strange that I'm reading Bonk now, by Mary Roach and she talks about various studies, i.e. Masters & Johnson among others. I've only read about 1/4 of the book but it's entertaining & enlightening. It just may have some data on the different religions' position on positions.
