OMG... I can not believe I found this on google.
I was actually there at Newmarket when Ubedizzy went berserk In the runners up enclosure.
He was banned from racing for life and later sold at the Newmarket Selling stakes. His reserve was just 8,000 guinea's and I begged my father to buy and stable him for me....

I've had too much experience with an insane steeplchaser as a young lady's "pony" not to think your father was a lot more sensible that you.

Yes, Hindsight Is a wonderful thing :wah: My Father asked at the time who the heck would have him and that would have been the problem.. getting him stabled. I just wish I could find some footage of this horse from his hey-day In 1978.
He was such a character. I was doing my bookie's apprentiship at Ladbrookes back them and In those days we did not have the sattelite TV screens that all Bookies have now. It was just an aural Tannoy and the board-marker had to write the odds up on the wall by hand.
Most races where Ubedizzy ran... well actually all of them :wah:, you would hear over the tannoy the following:
There Is a delay to this race... Ubedizzy has un-seated his jockey and bolted.
There will be a further delay to this race as Ubedizzy has dissapeared Into the woods.
This race will start shortly when Ubedizzy has been re-captured.
Ubedizzy has been captured and Is being led back to the starting gate.
Ubedizzy Is being re-mounted.
Ubedizzy has thrown his Jockey and there will be a further delay to this race.
Ubedizzy has completed the circuit without his rider.
Ubedizzy has been re-captured and Is In the starting gate.
They are Under starters orders...
Ubedizzy wins by 2 lengths.
It was astonishing... That horse was responsible for delaying the race card by an hour every time he ran.
I went to the Newmarket Selling stakes to see him for the last time and he only just made his reserve,
Hundreds of people were there, not to buy him but to see him kick off and If I remember correctly, he did not dissapoint, by trying to kick his way through a brick wall.

Yes :wah:
Seriously... I always thought there had to be a reason for his behaviour and shortly after he was sold, an extensive vertinary check out revealed warts on his knees. He must have been In terrible pain. The last I heard of him, he had the warts removed and did fine.
He did sire one off spring called 'Ubuzzoff' which failed to Impress.
His viciousness aside, he was In the late 70's un-beatable and one of the fastest over the 5 or 6 furlong sprint. Had he not of been banned, he was only 5 years old and could have done great things.
Over 5 furlongs the commentary was always the same:
They are under starters order:
They are off:
Blah blah blah and Ubedizzy Is the back marker:
Half way to go and blah blah blah with Ubedizzy the back marker.
Into the last furlong and Ubedizzy has been switched to the outside.
Blah blah blah and Ubedizzy is making rapid head-way ( In that manic racing commentator type voice )
As they go Into the final furlong It is blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah has been joined by Ubedizzy
It's blah blah blah and Ubedizzy
No, It's Ubedizzy and blah blah blah blah
It's a photo.
He was amazing... just wish I could find footage of him.
