Sorry, I'm not sure where to post this. Here goes:

Is there a rule against copying interesting posts from this board to another board?

Thanks in advance. :)

If some-one has made a thread using a newspaper article as a link, there Is nothing to stop you using that same link providing you write you own opening post. To take the words of another without their permission, Is Plagiarism and you could be sued unless you name and credit the original author.

In general forums It Is just deemed bad practice to use other peoples threads and posts.

Unfortunately, a few do use this practice. and I get quite hacked off when I see the same person using posts that I have made here on other forums or use words that are specific to my vocablary. Some people have no orginality and rely on copying other members all over many forums. It does get frowned upon so I would not reccomend It.

Much appreciated! My question had nothing to do with claiming posts as my own. Yikey. I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Thanks!

I say hit the contact us button and ask the owner.

Of course, I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

Matter of fact - I think I've found my new signature..

Post by koan »

We have had very specific instances of posts being copied to another forum because they were deemed "interesting" in a specific kind of way... example: two posters know each other from another board, member1 copies member2's posts, giving full credit with links for a number of possible reasons we won't go into.

If that was the case, not that I'm implying it is, the general turn of events is that we do not allow such content being copied on to FG as it usually leads to no good. If the other board wishes to allow it, that's their business.

Most likely if you are using common sense and not bothering anyone, you're probably not breaking a rule.

Thank you Koan. My question was actually in the reverse, asking about copying interesting and discussion worthy posts from here to there.

I thought I'd formally ask and I appreciate the feedback, from all of you. :)

I realize you were looking to do the reverse, we only have control over our own forum. You'd be better off asking the forum mods where you wish to post it.

If you really want permission, you'd be better off asking the people you plan on quoting.

flopstock already opted out and I'm kind of with her on wanting royalty cheques if you plan on quoting me too. lol

To oscar

Let me ask you kindly. Please don't send me any more strange PMs. I have no clue who you're talking about that's on the verge of being banned and I don't like your insinuation that I will go down with him/her. WTH

I don't appreciate you involving me in your board dispute especially considering how you've behaved towards me on board. Further, I haven't received one single message from anyone here regarding another poster, except from you. I hope that clears it up.

Yes, I liked it and already asked on that specific thread. Thanks.

For the same reason I wouldn't post their board link here. But I've sent the FG link to some friends via email and hoping they'll join.

Then all the more so. When posting to Forum Garden a member give reproduction rights to the site but retains copyright. The member does not give reproduction rights to any and every other member of Forum Garden or any guest who happens to be passing.

Asking permission to copy a post is not just due courtesy, it is also an obligation.

CB, if you feel you are having a problem with a member, please don't hesitate to use the report a post feature and report it to the moderation team or contact administration through the "contact us" button located at the bottom of the page.

You can also place a member on your ignore list, which will stop unwanted contact from them.

It would be interesting and enlightening to learn exactly who Oscar feels is on the verge of being banned. To my knowledge, Oscar is not on our moderation team and is not privy to any such information.

I neither know nor care why you choose not to post a link. But a link is the only legal and easy solution to your question that I know of.
