“What majestic trees ! What powerful rivers ! What beautiful animals ! he said to himself.
Then he heard a rustling in the bushes and he turned to see a huge bear charging towards him. He ran as fast as he could but, looking over his shoulder, he could see that the bear was rapidly closing in on him. He tripped and fell to the ground and, when he rolled over to pick himself up, he found that the bear was right on top of him.
At that instant, the atheist cried out.
“Oh my God !
Time stopped, the bear froze and the forest fell silent. Then, as a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky.
“You deny my existence for all these years, you teach others that I don’t exist and you even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you really expect me to help you out of this predicament ? Am I to count on you as a believer ?
The atheist looked into the light and replied.
“It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the bear a Christian !
The light went out, sounds of the forest returned and the bear brought his paws together, bowed his head and spoke.
“Lord, bless this food which I am about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ, our Lord,
AMEN !
