Cliches....love them or hate them

Post by Bez »

Why do people use so many cliches....particularly Sports Commentators !

What are your favourite ones or the ones you really dislike ?

Do you find yourselves using cliches without realising it ?

Here are some I think are totally pointless :

Think outside the box

Making money hand over fist

Sweat equity

I know that there are some that have historical origins but even so.....:-2

I didn't get where I am today without a cliche or two

Oh God I hate them:wah:

At the end of the day.

Innit though?

When all Is said and done.

Blah blah blah hate them.....

I have noticed a few popping up lately In the world of horse-racing commentaries also.

So ans so Is 'Being Niggled along' being one of them... What exactly do you have to do to a race-horse mid field to 'Niggle' him along? :wah:

Well I prefer not to put all my eggs in one basket.

Its a shame that after every football match we have to listen to dull footballers who laden their commentary with cliches.

Its a game of two halves....blah blah blah

It all depends which ones, some just get down right boring when used over and over again.

'Thinking outside the box' is one of them.

I had an employer, a Bailiff, who worked for the city collecting unpaid tax's.

his favoite was 'Show me the money!"

It was great at first as we all joined in...then it got just over-repeatative.
Life is just to short for drama.

From what i have learned in my current class "interpersonal communications" Cliches are used when we don't know of a better way to communicate the message they want to convey.
