Fireworks in Bristol???

Are there fireworks going off in Bristol right now???? It's about 5 PM your time..I see flashes of light. Is it a bonfire night?

The gorillas at the zoo are acting crazy, running around constantly like they're in fear of their lives. Jock keeps scaring everyone and pushing them out of his way.

What's going on there? I've never seen the gorillas act like this before. The poor animals:-1

I just read that there is a 'bangless bonfire night.' I feel sorry for your animals there. They're scared to death with the lights

I've just had a peep at the webcams Kathy, and for the first time ever I have just seen all of them 'inside' and I think they sauntered from right to left then returned with what looked like pieces of food, so I've no doubt that the keepers are all on hand to settle the animals down. They all seemed fairly calm to me, so you must have caught them after a bright 'silent' rocket flared all over the place. Poor animals, won't understand what is going on, and will be rightly scared, even though there may be no actual bangs.

I watched them for about a half hour and they were running around in and out of the doors frantically. I saw the keepers trying to calm them with food. I feel so sorry for them. They were not calm when I saw them, especially because Jock was pushing everyone out of his way.

I remember when we were kids, my dad was a pharmacist and when 5 November arrived, he used to give our smooth-haired fox terrier Penny, a quarter grain of phenobarbitone. She curled up in front of the fire and went to sleep for about 3 hours, never knew a thing. He did this because the previous year she was so upset with all the bangs and flashes. Of course, in those days, Bonfire night was on November 5th (unless it fell on a Sunday then they would hold Bonfire Night on the Saturday, day before). Fireworks were only let off on the one night, not like these days when we seem to have a 5 November season !!!!!! Makes it exceedingly difficult and stressful for people with animals, and of course for the animals themselves.

The poor gorillas are still so stressed out with the activity at the zoo tonight. It's after 11 PM and all the gorillas are wandering and pacing in and out of the house, and the kidlets are holding onto their mums.

I've never seen them so stressed. Usually, they'd be sleeping peacefully outside in the early evening.

I love these gorillas and hate to see them like this

Ahhhh, they've seemed to settle down now...activity must be over.

Mum and kidlet are cuddling before bed...very sweet:-4

For the last few years, I've personally noticed a general decline in explosions and firework pyromatics. This applies to where I lived in Bedford too as well as here in Leeds.

i think its got worse here... especially in just my little area where i live ,, my dog was out of her mind last night,, its not as bad as i expected tonight though it being a weekend i thought tonight would be just as bad. Also this morning on my walk i saw about four smouldering bonfires where i normally only see one. I am bruised all over my legs where my staffy kept climbing on my knee:rolleyes:

Initially, I noticed an increase in fireworks throughout the year. It's just the last few years I've noticed a fairly sharp decline of fireworks.

Thinking about this has made me listen a little more than usual. I have heard fireworks in the distance and I expect there is a public display somewhere in Leeds. The sounds appear to be coming from the same direction.

I think that perhaps fireworks are too expensive to buy now. Just a thought.
