Good day ladies and gentle men:D,
how are you all doing in this lovely winter? :p
OK, I watched a video recently about a guy and I was wondering: do westerners really think this way?? , so I'm sharing it here with you too see what you think.
However, I like this argument between these students.

There is considerable truth in both videos, but that's just my opinion, I cannot speak for what other westerners may think.

Given the fact that Saudi Arabian culture is so opposite western culture and values there is no doubt in my mind that if it were not for the fact that we (US) derive benefit by our association, we would treat Saudi Arabia as a plague. Many governments tolerate one another if there is some form of mutual benefit. Nothing new with that.
The second tape makes some good points with the male student in so far as terrorism is concerned, however there is a decided difference between deliberate intent to kill civilians in a non combat atmosphere and the killing of civilians in the confusing atmosphere of combat operations. The key here in my opinion is INTENT. Recent bombings and killings of innocent civilians around the world by radicals is not justification for the civilians that are killed unintentionally.

IMHO, the first one is little more than a stan-up comic routine that takes itself far too seriously.
I mean, yes, the Saudi government strikes me a bit extreme in some ways, but the brits have little room for condemning any other culture.
The second one, I can see how many Muslims must feel the way the guy does, but the film plays fast and loose with many of the facts.

well, I think that US government is exploiting countries for oil, that just seems bad.

technical drawing professor that lectures in the university that i'm studying at is British and hey i can tell, you're right :wah: , though i like British accent.
a lot of westerners can't see the difference, unfortunately, I think the media is not so good there.

As Lon stated there are truths in both dialogs. The problem lies in that perception is truth sometimes in spite of what the facts are. The British speakers views were sarcastic, venomous and skewed but there were some political truths. The Muslim students arguments also held some truths from his perspective.
It seems to me that what we all truly lack is global perspective. How is that achieved?

Surprise surprise---------recent WikiLeaks a plenty seem to indicate that much of U.S. Foreign Policy stresses not self interest, but a desire to keep peace and stability in a particular area. Could that possibly be? Big old bad push your weight around USA?

Most Westerners think the way that we've been taught to think. Just like most Easterners.
We have a variety of different ways that information is programmed into our brains. Not by ourselves though most of the time it comes from tv, from political circles, from the education system, from the radio, from movies, music, video games, etc. Just like with Easterners.
The controlling mechanisms for the World population are not limited to one side of the globe. Certainly not anymore with technology exploding everywhere around the planet.

Sounds a good point:D. Since we all " westerners and easterners " have technology and the internet, why wouldn't people try to extract correct information about what they are taught or hear?

The internet and books are about the only thing that hasn't been completely controlled from the top down. There isn't enough people to stop the truth from slipping out here and there either through books or through the internet. At least not at the moment.
Before the internet, books were pretty much the only way to get your own individual viewpoints on subjects by reading your own variety of books and then coming to your own conclusions. There has always been an extremely large number of books being printed every day and so therefore it was nearly impossible and still is nearly impossible for anyone to be able to keep tabs on every single book that comes out. There are just too many being printed all the time for anyone to be able to catch them all if they contain information that certain people in certain positions might not want out in the open. But tough cookies for them I guess.
The internet is also so big and vast that there really is no way to totally control it unless they completely change the way people access it. All they could really control is the access to the internet (possibly through making people buy cards or points to log onto it, etc.), but they could never really control it completely. So many people feel comfortable posting almost whatever they want to on the internet that I don't believe it will ever be possible to scare the majority of people into not doing that. So the internet is pretty much going to always be right on par with the books when it comes to individual information gathering instead of a chosen line of information being fed to the masses through various different channels.
I praise books. And I praise the internet. Without them, we would already be Nazi Germany times 10 by this time in America I truly do believe that but because of them we are still able to find the truth in a relatively easy manner. And I don't see how that could ever change, of course at least until the whole 2012 thing comes around, and as the changes begin to take place even this year, however, their entire system is about to come crumbling down as well, so it will allow for new types of information gathering to be born as the old ones fade into the past.
