Argh. More dental work to start the New Year.
I don't have a phobia of dentists I just hate spending money on myself. I'd put this in the official "I'm cheap" thread but it really doesn't save me any money to wait.
I think I'm going to have them do everything in one visit so I'm only frozen for a day.

... not to make it sound worse than it is, I hate when the answer to "what did you have for dinner?" is "my tooth"

You do have my sympathy though, I don't think there's many who would look forward to a visit to the dentist, even for a check up.....money all the way.
Good luck.

True enough.
My parents and all my grandparents had lost all theirs long before they got to be my age.
I am only missing two.
That had something to do with mouthing off to a guy wearing "Outlaws" colors, after too many beers one night in my younger years.

My Dentist always says to me "Just floss the ones you want to keep" it's that simple you either take care of your teeth or they are gone sometime at a very early age. Me, I'm taking my with me they have cost me way to much to give up.

ALOHA!!

I'm in the process of replacing the metal fillings. They expand and crack the teeth that house them. A tiny piece of a back molar broke last night but it always feels like a huge piece is missing. I knew this one was next on the list, just put it off until after the holidays.

Oh, that is a hard thing-those teeth do age. Get it fixed, it will last a very long time.

I do have a perfectly rational fear of the dentist stemming, I think, from getting four teeth removed in one go under gas as a child. I still have nightmares about it. Just had a tooth removed so I am feeling sorry for myself at present. :-1 Keep forgetting and bite on it.

The only part I hate is the pain killer injections.
And they are not nearly as painful as an abscess tooth.

Bad news was that the tooth that cracked is going to be 5 times more expensive than it was going to be 6 months ago... I'm telling myself that it would have turned out to need more work anyway.
Good news is that I don't need a crown so, technically, they're all still my real teeth.
More good news: all my metal fillings will be gone and I'll have all my dental work done in just two visits!
Bad news: Really costly
Good news: I have a dental plan

damn. the saga continues.
Bad news: Just saw the maximum coverage per year and I'll have to split the work into two "years"
Good news: I put this off so long, the next "year" starts in a couple of months
Hopefully the "year" actually starts from my coverage dates and not calendar.

Hopefully the coverage will pay for most of it. I have learned the hard way putting off anything to do with teeth will always cost you more in the long run. As soon as there is a problem I go and it has saved teeth and a ton of money. As my dentist pointed out they don't fix themselves, its not a scratch that heals they always need to be looked at immediately. Hard lesson to learn.
I have gone from having them cleaned once a year to every six months really helped avoid costly repairs.

Looks like I'll have to wait until November to finish it. :yh_pray Please let the rest of them hold out until November! Meanwhile, I'm getting the two worst done now and extremely thankful that I only have to pay a fraction of it. Also really grateful for an amazing dentist who didn't go for a full crown even though I wouldn't have known there was another, cheaper option. Love that guy!
I'm still impressed that they're all my own teeth though I think of them like the Darth Vaders of the tooth world. Damn stress killed my enamel... kind of like how video killed the radio star... but less easy to dance to.
