One of the few newspapers I read each morning is the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, it's one of the world's great newspapers. Coldest I have ever been was sitting in a Bateau out in the middle of the Okefenokee swamp and the temp was around 20.
It gets pretty damned cold all the way down into Central Florida every year around this time. The humidity makes it feel even colder.
My cousins near Atlanta were snowed in for three or four days last week.
Snow is not an annual thing that far south, but every few years it can snow enough to shut Atlanta down for a day or two.

Ive driven through Georgia many times. Lots of interesting history there but geographically most of the state is uneventful. The area north of Atlanta however is spectacular.

Yup. That certainly sounds like you. In defense of MN we happen to have more shoreline than Canada, Hawaii and Florida combined. Within the boundaries of the lakes lie woodlands, a plethora of native wildlife such as wolves, deer, wild Turkey and many other species. Our lakes are not to be sniggered upon nor scoffed at.
