The earth is on the move, sorta

Post by LarsMac »

Arkansas is not known as a seismically active area.

True, one of the the biggest earthquakes in North America happened just a bit north of Arkansas back in the 1800's, but The Ozark region has been about the most stable, seismically speaking, for centuries.

But in the last week there have been a number of shake-ups, most not significant.

It was brought to my attention last night when there was a loud thump and my house creaked, followed by a half second or so of shaking.

I at first thought that one of the big Ash trees in my front yard had fallen on the house. An inspection showed this not to be the case.

I decided to check the US Geo sight and it showed that there had been a 4.7 magnitude quake in the region. epicenter was about 100 miles or so from my house.

A look today shows a lot of little quakes

a dozen or more just today.
