Can You Believe This?

Post by Lon »

Last Thursday I had a medical procedure in San Francisco by one of the top Electrophysiologists in the world with an international reputation. This is one busy doc and is much in demand for his particular skills. I was able to obtain his email address and this morning I emailed a thank you to him. I thanked him for the time and attention that he gave my wife and I before and after the procedure. I never really expected a reply, but he responded later in the day. Because of the nature of the reply I know it was him and not an assistant. Impressed?? You betcha, particularly when I can hardly ever get my local primary care doc to answer a phone call.

Rare but refreshing in todays medical world...

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

Respect to him for answering personally - it probably made him feel good to receive your e-mail as well.

not many would email their doctor, I can see him being quite impressed.
Life is just to short for drama.

Similar story for me. My beloved's been battling TMJ for what seems like forever now. We finally found who the dentists say they would go to if they had the problem. He's in charge of the UTSA dental school and only does 4 appointments per week, but he answered his own phone when I called. He answers my emails, and I mean FAST. He even initiated an email or two to check to make sure that we understood the previous conversation, to check to see if the meds he prescribed are helping, such as that.

These guys seem to be as rare as hen's teeth, but they're out there.

Ouch! I hope that he's managing to sort her out - that sounds painful. Glad you've managed to find the man for the job.

Both my primary doctor and my dog's vet use email effectively. It is handy for me, since I can find a referred doctor out on the road, get simple questions answered, and keep in touch. My doctor likes it because it cuts down on office visits for routine matters like prescription renewals and questions, most of which are routinely handled by office staff. She sends out appointment reminders that include a list of preparations, such as fasting for a blood test. She also has embraced online calendars so my next appt is in my phone's calendar before I leave the desk. She said she was intrigued when she overheard me talking with her staff when making a followup appointment, so she took me to lunch to talk about it.

I find it to be very handy.

I'm afraid if I e-mailed my doctor that a restraining order would be my next prescription.

I had surgery today and I made sure to thank everyone for their top notch care. They seemed to appreciate the sentiment. I also think when I woke up I demanded cake.

I think of how much things have changed when we're enamored by a physician actually communicating with us personally. I recall doctors talking with my parents routinely when I was young. Specialists too.
