I grew up eating SPAM during WW2 when fresh meat was hard to come by. I still occasionally will have it with eggs in the morning. It's much, much better than the printed version.

I kind of like it too. Spam and Swiss cheese on rye with mayo.

While we're on the subject.

Spam kinda reminds me of Leberkase, a delicacy I discovered while in Bavaria some years back.

The stuff is ubiquitous. Even Russians, who for decades had little direct cultural contact with the west know exactly what it is. The Russian soldiers grew to hate it in WWII There's probably some guy in New Guinea with a bone in his nose and a grass skirt eating some right now.

I wonder if Napoleon had it?

I don't know about "Napoleon" but when I visited several islands in the "Tonga Chain" in 1999, I traded "Spam" for woven baskets and home made cloth goods. The Tongans loved it.

I read that some fast food chains over there offer a Spam burger. Does anyone have recipe for the coating of a Spam fritter?

Me? I'm a "corned beef hash" fan. With eggs and toast...delicious. And.....when I want to eat a cowboy meal, I eat hash and beans.
