What do parents teach their kids ?
Something that has just happened may not register with some people but has left myself and my husband shocked.
We came home about an hour ago and sat down with a coffee. The dogs had just had particually good run and the aggressive one of the three took himself off to his bed, tired out.
We have a good fence all around the house to stop them getting out. We have 'Beware of the dog' signs all around the fencing. There Is even one saying not to open the gate when the dogs are loose outside. There Is a mail box outside the gate and a digital doorbell outside the gate. Surely this Indicates that the dog Inside Is not to e trusted?
The aggressive male and one of the others was In the lounge with us. The younger puppy was out In the garden with the front door open. Luckilly, the door between the lounge and the hall was shut.
Suddenly, the two In the lounge start going berserk and my husband went out to see what was going on but keeping them from running out.
Getting out there, he found three very young children who we had never seen before. Two were In the front garden and one was actually Inside our home In the hall !!!!!
He explained they had come In the garden to throw the ball for the puppy and It had missed landing Inside the house In the hall so he thought It quite acceptable to enter our home and retrieve the ball from the hall.
We are just dumbfounded.
We have never seen these kids before and they had no idea of who lived In the house.

What do parents teach their kids ?
Julie,
That is very scary to find a stranger in your home no matter how old they are!
We have some unsupervised children here in my area. There have been drownings in public and private pools. Where are the people supervising these children?? The children were submerged for 20 min. or so and died.
Jeez, no matter how old your children are, they need to be supervised somehow, especially the wee ones. Makes me so mad to see children wandering alone.
Last summer I found 6 small children sitting at my patio table, having their snacks. Their parents who were renting the home in back of me for a summer's holiday were no where to be found.
A small boy, about 7 yrs., from the same house was sitting at my patio table playing with my shells that were on the table. He walked into my outdoor shower that I usually keep locked. The shower looked like it was part of my house so I think he thought he could just walk into my house.
I think that I finally got him to go home after I saw him walking down my street with lots of traffic around. His family was annoyed that I was complaining about him wandering around.
Remember my story about the old man across the street? Well, he was banging at my door at 10 am asking to borrow more money. He opened my outdoor shower door...guess he thought that he was coming into my house. He sat at my patio table and then opened up the door to my shed and garage. He also watered my herb garden...lol
Luckily, I have dead bolts on all of my doors. Now, I have to remember to lock all outside doors to shower and shed. No one is supervising this poor man.

Kathy, I think your old neighbour may be lonely and you being the kind hearted lady you are, he knows where to come, bless him.
I am really quite annoyed now thinking about the possible ramifications of our Incident.
These kids could have chosen a house with a paedophile just released from prison.
One of us could have been wandering around naked.
Then, would I have been expected to have my dog destroyed because he reacted to finding a stranger In his home albeit a small stranger?

I hear you Julie....I was very nervous talking to this wee boy trying to get him to go home. BUT, I'm not going to let him be killed by a car and walk around an unknown town to me because his family is not watching him....grrrr....
The poor old man is going senile. I don't think he actually knows where he is half of the time. I'm going to go down to the police station today and see if I can find him some help. I don't know where his family is...no one seems to care about him.

Does he have a relative you can contact?

He is all alone apparently Julie. The cops have been here many times due to his failings, falling down, breathing issues, forgetfulness.
All the cops do it put him back in his house.

I wouldn't worry about it Oscar. Kids have brain fades as much as adults do . They saw a puppy got excited and threw a ball to him. It's jus the way kids are .

BTW how did you respond to them? Most Kindly.
We accepted the blackberries they had been picking In the lane that they offered us and gently pointed out If one of our other dogs had been In the hall, they may have got hurt and that there are some not nice people around.
There was absolutely no reason to be anything other than kind as they were children who didn't realise how badly the situation could gone.

KE call adult protective services they will send someone out to do an assesment of this mans living situation to determine how safe, or how dangerous it is to let him remain in the house alone.
Luckily, I have dead bolts on all of my doors. Now, I have to remember to lock all outside doors to shower and shed. No one is supervising this poor man.
