Have Hyped The Storm?

They always build them up to start with, but this one looks like it is going to fizzle soon.

On the other hand, I have seen them wander off to the east, loop around, build up strength and come back with a whallop.

Gets people out to the grocery stores though, doesn't it.

There's alot to be said for being prepared, especially for folks who live in areas that are in possible danger.

Well, below Delaware we are on high alert. It has been gray skies and wind just starting, big rains due in this afternoon. My house is above flood level, so groceries are in. One trip out to belt testing, and then come home, put those sore tootsies on ice and wait it out.

Irene has just made landfall, winds reported on BBC at 85 mph. Is it all hyped up? I don't know. But if the area hit is not used to winds of 85 mph then they should be taking it very seriously imo. It's amazing how little it can take to cause chaos when the system isn't set up to cope with the current circumstances. Good luck to all in her path.

Is Mayor Bloomberg also part of this conspiracy to divert attention from Obama's incomptence? To me at any rate, the comparison is with New Orleans and Katrina and the attempt to divert attention seems to be away from that.

Hey Clod...great to see you...How have you been?

About Irene..

I don't care what anyone says....Info on the storm is not hyped up...IMO

States along the Eastern shore line are not used to the horrible storms that the Carolinas, Florida and Georgia have deal with all of these years.

We're afraid because we've never had a hurricane of this magnitude. Our governors and president just want people to be safe.

Too often, we tend to be complacent and not do what we're told to do regarding safety issues. Come on, we're talking about a powerful storm coming up the coast and people are surfing and not leaving the shore ????? Might be fun for these people, but I feel sorry for the people who risk their lives and try to save them.

He can't win on this one, if they warn people and take precautions and it fizzles out it's hysterical overreaction, if they don't take precautions it's incompetence and lack of proper judgement. Damned if he does damned if he doesn't. Better to do what's right and be thought a fool than do nothing for fear of being thought a fool.

It's hype if you're not severely affected, it's dead on if you're place has been devistated! Over half a million people here (I'm one of the lucky ones who still has power) are without power since yesterday complements of Irene, and likely will not have power for a week or longer. At least "21" people have been killed, several "billion" dollars worth of damage has been done, thousands are now homeless as their houses were destroyed, seems like more then hype!

Good thing it didn't turn out as predicted.

I don't think so. Our gov was not exactly sure of what would happen. He just wanted to protect everyone and get them out of the shore areas.

I think he did a good job.

Hi Julie,

I'm not crazy about this man, but yes, he did a good job. I loved when he heard that there were people were still on the beach in Asbury Park, NJ. He said, 'get the hell off the beach and go home!' For the first time, he showed that he had a heart and cared about peeps in our state. He was on call 24/7 going up and down the coast line and inner cities that were near the rivers that were overflowing and flooding the near-by cities. He was smart and available this time...good for him.
