In real life conversations/discussions evolve from one topic to another...sometimes they revert to the original topic, sometimes they don't. I like the way a discussion can take a completely different turn...it feels enlivening.

So why does it have to be different on forum threads?

Well, I can understand someone's frustration if they start a thread asking for advice about aphids and someone comes in and starts talking about their sex life... or maybe vice versa. But in the latest thread where I saw someone get cranky about it, I thought the thread topic was broad enough to go off on tangents without destroying the integrity of the original subject. So, I think it's just a matter of opinion and mood of the forum members... there's no set answer, IMHO.

It doesn't have to be, some find thread drift annoying and think no one should do it and are not averse to making their displeasure known, on the odd occasion killing a thread entirely. Mind you some also think no one should disagree with their point of view or pet theory and they and get upset if anyone does. Personally i don't worry about it.

Oh, for goodness sake, will people please stay "on" topic.

Or is that "off" topic?

What was the topic? Aphids? Sexual behaviour? Pet theories? Oscar's dog? The price of eggs?

Vice versa almost sounds like something I would do. :wah:

So how do you get rid of aphids after sex?

Aphids, fuzz. Perhaps you got the wrong word.
