What have we bred ?
People often talk about the youth of today but I am more Inclined to think of the parents of those youths as the 'lost generation'.
How can we really expect children to learn these days when this example Is set to them?
My husband who Is a fair bit older than me, Is In his senior years and due to Illness relies now on a walking stick. He can't walk far as It Is.
Today we were strolling along a High Street which was quite busy at the time at a snails pace heading toward a shop. Suddenly, an obese 40 something year old and a bloody ugly one at that Is right behind us. Before my husband had chance to move aside for her because she was obviously In a hurry, she screams at him and yes, she did scream as other shoppers turned around to look. She screamed 'OH GET OUT OF THE ********** WAY'.
With her was what appeared to be her son aged around 13 years old who frankly looked embarassed.
She went Into the shop so I went straight In after her and started with 'Who the hell do you think you are?' I'd only just finished that sentence when she started screaming her head off calling for security who when they arrived, she announced I was harrassing her.
Typical bully In my book...Probably thought she could run her mouth off and then the minute she realised that someone was going to take her on backed off and cried help.
But... what an example for her son to witness.

What have we bred ?
I call this incident part of our "casual" society. Dress has gone casual; behavior has gone casual; conversations have gone casual; relationships have gone casual; parenting has gone casual. By "casual" I mean little or no effort goes into anything. This was started as a kind of revolution against rules, formality and tradition. Now it has deteriorated into situations like you and your husband experienced. This is just my opinion based on what I see going on in our world today.

I saw all the comments screaming 'racist' ....but I have a feeling the woman is unwell. She seems to be in her own little world there. She's hardly noticing she has a child in her arms. Very silly of the other woman to take on that kind of human. I tend to (and have done) allow them to have a rant and then when they get off the bus have a bit of a giggle with other passengers ...anyway where's the security on that train?
What have we bred ?
Unwell or high on something possibly.

She had a bad day, and decided to ruin it for the rest of 'em, as well.

You are right we not only have a casual society but also a very seflish one. Some people should never have had children and I think that society as a whole misses mum full time in the house or at least making sure that the children are well looked after and not being latch key kids!

My nephew is like this now.. he told people to ******* Off when he was 4 or 5 maybe.. His mum has a foul mouth and he's just copied.
Now my old school wasn't much better. I was to polite. Although i've always had a short fuse and yes also i do have a foul mouth at times when i'm really angry.. But anyway they told me at school i was to polite and therefor they would have to send me to a lower level at secondary school.
I was there for a week.. the teachers looked at me and sent me up 2 levels..
So really i was being punished for being polite.. What does that teach our youngsters?

Your luck strongly resembles mine..in getting in trouble for someone elses wrong doing. My high street looks the same. I think the problem goes far deeper than hedonism, socialism and capitalism can explain. I think our own best natures are our own worst enemies. What makes people so inward looking and focused is mind boggling. The true question is what was so urgent that made that woman be so nasty for?

I'm really put off by any references of specific generations being flawed. Where I work I run into assholes of all ages. It's not the age or generation it's the fact that there are a lot of assholes in the world and they get noticed because they are the loudest. I had to tell off an elderly man who was making a scene today. At least he apologized and thanked me for my patience when I was done explaining the number of ways in which he was wrong. Then a 20 something chickypoo showed up later on and defied reason or logic. It's not the generation of one, the other or following. It's just statistics.
Mind you, some of the most polite people I've met are the most insidious. I'd rather have a loud-mouthed pig to deal with than a vindictive narcissist.

Let us move up yet another generation. I must say that the last few months have consisted of constant intense rudeness, aggressiveness and unacceptable, social behaviour from people between the ages of 45-82 in my workplace. I'd estimate the most polite age groups are 3-16 and 25-35 with a few uber happy spreaders around 20yrs old (but they might be *gasp* drug users)
Overall I'd name the most offensive, abusive group as those between 65 and 75 yrs old.

what I find amusing and always have is the assumption that those during a conflict ..and lets take those in london for instance, go through a blitz and when you think about it it's not that long ago ...you have a whole population of traumitised people PTSD everywhere.....then they breed.....their own children are traumitised because of their parents ....then so on and so on ...add corperal punishment to thefore and then expect to have great educated well thinking human beings as great grandchildren. uuuummm hellooooo? not gunna happen like it doesn't happen in most other countries . On the whole you have a ****ed up society and i htink we are seeing more and morte of them . which ends up in generations being led by outsiders or ...becoming very insular .

Wow. Woman on tram is seriously being thought of as a new generation problem?
Did she burn a cross? Did she lynch someone? How is this her generation? She's just a misguided product.

Her beliefs have nothing to do with her being charged, it was her choice of language and situation and causing public disorder.

Yes, It is a problem.
Anybody whatever race or colour has a right to travel on public transport without being Insulted, sworn at and abused by a loud mouthed drunk In public.
On the clips Bruv posted, we only saw adults but there could have been very young children witnessing this.
In those Instances, It remained peaceful but often It doesn't when the one being being abused begins to abuse back. The next thing you have a fight on a bus and Innocent people even children getting caught up In It.... That's why we have laws against It In this country.
Be honest, would you want to take your children on public transport If this kind of thing was common place and your children were subject to that?
It's not about having an opinion, It's about common curtesy and decency when out In public.

I have to work on language and courtesy with the high school kids I teach all day and all evening.
