BOY of 3 dies after being allegedly shut in a washing machine the AA grumpy column
good evening from a rather sniffly grumpy column
yes your grumps has got a stinking cold
tonight we cross to europe and an upseting story.
A BOY of three died after his father allegedly shut him in a washing machine and switched it on as a "punishment".
Christophe Champenois, 33, is accused of bundling little Bastien's naked body into the machine at the family home near Paris and running a cold wash cycle.
He is said to have wanted to punish the boy after he flushed a classmate's drawings down the toilet at playgroup.
Bastien's mother Charlene, 25, released her son and ran to a neighbour's house with his limp body in her arms, claiming he had fallen down the stairs.
The neighbour, named only as Alice, said: "I took him in my arms like a broken doll. I felt the last beat of his heart. Charlene didn't move. She was red all over. She didn't understand he was dead."
The parents stuck to their story about an accident on the stairs. But their five-year-old daughter revealed her brother was locked inside the washing machine, and that it was not the first time.
Sometimes the tot was locked inside a closet for around two hours, she said.
Christophe Champenois was charged with murder of a minor. Charlene Champenois was charged with not preventing a crime and not assisting a person in danger.

i have reposted this as a revised column as i have recieved an infraction point from spot.
the father is only alleged to have killed his son so i cannot say too much about it however IF the father and mother are convicted of this heartless crime then may the french courts deal with them severely.
although the evidence seems conclusive we shall see

I've read stories about people putting pets in the washing machine or dryer but this is the first time I've seen it happen to a child. I don't understand the mentality behind that.

i dont normally bellow at my column posters and i know i,ve written some near the knuckle things in my time as a columnist but that comment is absolutly diabolical.
you cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering that child went through before he departed this life i can only assume that death was a blessed relief for the little mite.
IF YOU CANNOT SAY ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE GO ELSEWHERE AND DO NOT POST ON MY COLUMN THAT IS DISGUSTING

Does anyone remember the axe killings at Cowra? http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/crime ... ening.html is the thread.
I was puzzled at the time that someone acting abnormally in consequence of a brain tumour would be regarded as either criminal or in any sense bad. Given today's Parisien apparently saying this chap "found out last week he had an inoperable brain tumour" perhaps we're back in familiar territory.
I'll try to find out what happened to the fellow in Cowra.
I haven't seen the slightest suggestion that the mother had any hand in the child's death, Andy, apart from yours.

I had an abnormal socio-psychological response then because I found the jokes unfunny and in very poor taste.

I wouldn't think it's the same thing if the duaghter said it was a normal punishment.

It's blatantly obvious it wasn't "a normal punishment" since it was guaranteed lethal. Had it ever happened before, the child would have already died on the first occasion. Do you seriously think any three year old could possibly survive such an event?

I don't suppose that in the light of my comment you'd care to revise your opinion then? Or do you actually think any three year old could possibly survive such an event - in which case perhaps "the daughters statement", if she said what you claim, might have merit in your eyes. Has it? Or might at least a token particle of logic have a place in your world view after all.

But their five-year-old daughter revealed her brother was locked inside the washing machine, and that it was not the first time.
Nothing about switched on ?
Logic ?

The Sun appears to have exploited a loophole in English Grammar, a trick they often pull. I believe you'll find that what wasn't for the first time was the "locked inside", with reference in the next sentence to the cupboard. I would trust the Sun as far as I could spit into a strong wind. The French papers haven't even hinted at what you suggest.

I have 'suggested' nothing, only read the information supplied in this thread, and put the 'locked in the washing machine' comment into context of that information logically.
