Rain Rain Go Away

Post by Lon »

We arrived in New Zealand on the 4th of December and other than a six hour respite last Thursday which allowed for a round of golf, it's rained, no, poured day and night with high winds. There has been quite a bit of flooding here in the Nelson area with damage to many of the vineyards and crops. *The news says it's the worst in 50 years. *Daughter has big outside "Harry Potter" party planned for a bunch of kiddies tomorrow. Hmm

Rain Rain Go Away

This sort of thing is happening too often in too many places. Climate change methinks.

Saw an interesting programme recently (and the spelling of programme is another for your collection of cultural differences:)) that suggested that the force which drove the evolution of a single branch of the hominid family tree into early humans was a 200,000 year period of climate change about 6,000,000 years ago, which by putting a premium on dealing with unexpected change that instinct didn't deal with, drove the development of human intelligence.

It's really a theory rather than a proven fact, but if it is true, I wonder if a similar period of climate change now could drive similar changes and we evolve into something clearly different from what we are now? Clearly there's the risk of being knocked back into the Stone Age, or wiped out altogether, but I wonder about the other possibilities...

Oh, and I hope it clears up for you tomorrow. Snow due here overnight!
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"

Lone voice: "I'm not."
