Unbelievable Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in Lapland, Finland

As beautiful as this is on film, I can't imagine how breathtaking it must be to witness in person. Have any of you had that good fortune?

I witnessed it around 13 years ago here in Cornwall, the lights in the sky were amazing. At first we wondered if aliens had landed :wah:

lol ... I'd probably wonder the same thing! Lucky you though. I see the occasional double rainbow and meteor showers but other than that, no celestial wonders!

:wah: When in doubt blame it on aliens...

Does anyone feel some of the awe is taken away from the northern lights when one understands why and what they actually are?

I doubt one would be as unimpressed by the lights when actually there compared to what's left up to their imagination but still thought I might ask
