Compared to today's size "zero" ... Twiggy would be considered overweight!

Photoshop, great lighting and make-up make a huge difference.

That is incredible!

floppy I'm surprised at you ...I can look at a woman and see what she was in her younger days and I respect that . but to see her today fills me with confidence. take a pic of yourself now because in ten years you'll regret it if you don't . I'ts not about looks it's how you changed the world. And she changed Australian womens attitudes ...I love her . Cause when my mum called me a hore for wearing what was typically known as ....well...normal attire....I had twiggy for my defence...and she knew it . (my mum was a lingerie model) HELLO!!! lol lol lol lol .

Wrong middle-aged, overweight woman... I was posting that not to denigrate her achievements but to highlight how false advertising like that hurts "normal" people when they see the airbrushed version and wonder why they don't look that good. They took a 60 year old woman and made her look 40. That's where body image issues begin.

That's even worse. There's nothing wrong with looking your age, damn it. Nicole Kidman looks like a wax figure now when she'd probably be magnificent in her middle years if she hadn't botoxed herself into oblivion.
Thin models with hips removed in photos, wrinkles erased... it's like we're all supposed to have the figure of a 12 year old with implants. Who came up with this standard of beauty, it's cruel and impossible to accomplish.

Now now ladies ... sheath those claws! I was referring to the time when Twiggy was still a teenager!!

I wasn't trying to be catty, I really wasn't. As I get older, I notice the ridiculous fads that come out that everyone follows, thinking they look better. Twiggy was an exceptionally thin teenager but the fashion industry held her out as an example and they never looked back. No one looks like that past their teens but that doesn't stop people from trying because it's been set as the paragon of beauty. Why would a mature woman want to look like that?

Okay Snooze ... We have no catty ladies on FG, or as my Science teacher used to say after he'd listened patiently to my excuse for not turning in my homework ... "I believe you son ... but millions wouldn't!" :yh_rotfl:wah::yh_rotfl

I didn't say there weren't any catty comments here from either male or female, but in this case I wasn't being a bitch simply to insult Twiggy but to get the point across that we're apparently slaves to fashion designers that have become the arbiters of modern beauty.

On the other hand ... as the bishop said to the actress: "Is it fair to compare?"
Had we not seen all those sexy photos and movies of BB during the sixties, would we care that she looks like this now?
Or as Charley Brown said:

However even so French ladies do seem to age better.
This is a "then & now" of a French actress whose name escapes me for the moment ...

Notice the carefully draped scarf held coyly at her neck? Her hands are also disguised. Well done, French lady.

I didn't interpret your initial post as catty, at all, Snooze. I actually felt relieved that, in reality, Twiggy looks like most of us sixty somethings. Ageing of the body is a natural process and although the changes are often unwelcome, they're inevitable. For me it seems like a con to pretend otherwise.

I really admire Bardot for not trying to cheat the ageing process.

So do I Theia ... She has given "old age" the finger!
As my old man used to say: "Age is a number ... you're only as old as you feel." (Or words to that effect. I have to be careful what I post you see!)

I feel like an 18 year old....
Where I'll get one at this time of day, I'm not sure.

Exactly..........My reply to my children when they tell me "Dad you are getting old" is that they are aging at the same rate, and that I am 'as older' as they are.

As to clothing sizes for women, sizes have changed in recent years:

I've noticed that. I like wearing loose, long shirts in a 1x which I think translates to womens size 18. I ordered a 1x online and found out that they consider that to be a size 14. That's a two size difference!
