The Press Association: Lawrence killers to launch appeal
I said In Andy's thread when these two were convicted that I hoped both would appeal and I am absolutely delighted to hear that both have.
Make no mistake, I do believe that the pair were either there on the night or knew who did It but we have laws In this country that protect the accused In order for them to have a fair trial.
These two were deemed guilty before they had even set foot In the dock by public opinion, Instigated by National newspapers.
Stephen Lawrence's Mother has sought media attention for 18 years to bring her son's killer to justice but In that process, has bandied about the names of these two men for 18 years. There Is probably no one left In this country that has not heard of these two men and there-fore trying to find an Impartial Jury would be Impossible.
However much the pubic wants some-one to be guilty, doesn't mean they are. These two men had already been found Not Guilty twice.... the third convicted them and I really hope their convictions are over-turned If anything to ensure that this kind of public lynching never happens again In this country.

Mr Justice Treacy told the pair: "A totally innocent 18-year-old youth on the threshold of a promising life was brutally cut down in the street in front of eyewitnesses by a racist, thuggish gang. You were both members of that gang. I have no doubt at all that you fully subscribed to its views and attitudes."Sounds like alot of presumptuousness going on but I suppose the article doesn't seem to provide very many facts either

The part you quoted from the article speaks volumes... The Judge said ... 'You were part of that gang'.... It does not mean that either one of them stabbed him.
Being part of a gang should not make you guilty of murder merely by association.
