After allowing the breast cancer charity to get hijacked by fundamentalists, I wonder if we'll see the "buy pink" brand lose its grip. Have to say I was getting wary of how many companies were jumping on the pink bandwagon.

How deep does the rabbit hole go? What percentage of the extra pink sales got kept by corporations? Think the story is over?

It's pretty upsetting to me too. Conservatives ruin everything they touch. They remind me of Facists, "My way or I'll kill you."

You see pink ribbons on almost all hygiene womens products and other things in the supermarket these days. buying charity is not new but it's still disgusting.

Do they need licensing approval or something to plaster the pink ribbon on things? Since they're ubiquitous, you'd think the charity would be rolling in the dough.

My sister died of breast cancer young. When you have stood with three small children watching them throw red roses on to their mother's coffin as It's lowered In to the ground, you welcome anything, anything, anything and everything to raise awareness so that no other child loses their mother.

The pink ribbon Is the symbol of breast cancer so I don't care how much It Is exploited. The more people who see a pink ribbon, the more breast cancer Is researched and remembered.

I think that's the point of the thread though Oscar . If "anything anything and everything" is going somehwere else it's pretty dismal. In fact I'd be pretty angry on behalf of those children.

I think they should have to tell us how much of the purchase is going to the charity... kinda like how mcdonalds tells us that only 1 cent from each happy meal goes to ronald mcdonald charities.

My main objection to the whole mess was the lady refusing a severance package that she was entitled to... charities should be able to find executives willing to put in the time for a tax write off, IMO.

My point was, I'm wondering if all the things we see with pink ribbons are on the up and up and actually give ANY money to the charity.

I'm going to be honest here ...I've got to the stage where I don't really care. I've lost count of all the coloured ribbons representing different charities. Lets face it there is no money in cures ....only research. I think they should come clean and put out an overall ribbon for scientific researchers. It could be called .."give scientists a job" charity.

One of the concerns has been called "pinkwashing" and involves companies latching on to a cause as a marketing tool.

Many companies that raise funds for breast cancer also make products that are linked to the disease. Breast Cancer Action calls these companies “pinkwashers.” BMW, for example, gives $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure each time you test-drive one of their cars, even though pollutants found in car exhaust are linked to breast cancer. Many cosmetics companies whose products contain chemicals linked to breast cancer also sell their items for the cause.

I do support a number of charities, including the Komen foundation.

When I first heard about the removal of Planned Parenthood, however, I decided that I might remove that one from the list.

The reversal has encouraged me to reconsider, though I will see how the organization moves going forward.

However, I never choose a product because it brandishes a pink (or any other color) ribbon on its package.

The bandwagons get far to crowded for my liking.

I'm very wary of big brand marketing. There are a few that I've noticed that donate to a charity that tries to fix the very problem the product causes. If they really cared... they could change their products. And stop putting the word "natural" on them when they're full of chemicals.
