With the advance of finger print technology does anybody think that one day we will just need to touch a sensor with our finger, rather than carry an easily lost card ?

There are currently USB flash drives with fingerprint validation built in, just like there are notebook computers using fingerprint login. Putting the sensor onto an ATM is simple enough. The reason for the card is that it tells the ATM your bank code and account number, the PIN or fingerprint is just to validate you're an authorised user of the card. What would you have an ATM do if there were no card? Look you up from your fingerprint, out of all the world's card users? Your fingerprint without a card would open several bank accounts, not just yours.

Fingerprints may or may not be unique, I've never checked. If you google [ computer matching fingerprint recognition false negative site:.gov.uk ] you'll see the hazards of boiling a fingerprint down to a lookup code and expecting to get the same code every time and not having duplicates among the population.

I think we will soon develop sensors that can identify us by the electromagnetic signals that our brains emit. Each is probably as unique as DNA.
