Talk about an appalling invasion of privacy!

Elmer McCurdy (January 1880 – October 7th 1911) was an outlaw killed in a gunfight in the Osage Hills in Oklahoma. A newspaper account gave Elmer’s last words as “You’ll never take me alive!” His body was taken to a funeral home in Oklahoma. When no one claimed the corpse, the undertaker embalmed it with an arsenic-based preservative and allowed people to see “The Bandit Who Wouldn’t Give Up” for a nickel, placed in Elmer’s mouth, which the undertaker would collect later. Five years later, a man showed up from a nearby traveling carnival claiming to be Elmer’s long-lost brother wanting to give the corpse a proper burial. Within two weeks, however, Elmer was a featured exhibit with the carnival. For the next 60 years, Elmer’s body was sold to wax museums, carnivals, and haunted houses.

The owner of a haunted house near Mount Rushmore refused to purchase him because he thought that Elmer’s body was actually a mannequin and not lifelike enough. Eventually, the corpse wound up in “The Laff in the Dark” funhouse at the Long Beach Pike amusement park in California. During filming of the The Six Million Dollar Man shot in December 1976, a crew member was moving what was thought to be a wax mannequin that was hanging from a gallows. When the mannequin’s arm broke off, it was discovered that it was in fact the mummified remains of Elmer McCurdy, who was finally buried in the Boot Hill section of the Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma on April 22nd 1977, with 2 cubic yards of concrete over his casket so his remains would never be disturbed again.

Saint Bernadette is kind of shocking, I wonder how modern science explains an "incorrupt" body.

Cheating on the part of the clergy. Time after time they either make it happen or turn a blind eye while the laity does it for them.

And had you read the sentence prior " I was shocked to come across a pic of Anna Nicole Smith dead when I googled her one night ( or words to that effect ), you would have drawn the same conclusion as Flopstock, that It was the pic of ANS and not Ms Houston.

Thank you for reminding me. Yes, I did know at the time, I'd forgotten.

Elmer McCurdy isn't Anna Nicole Smith, isn't recently deceased and isn't being grieved over. The line, I suspect, if asked to draw one, is whether anybody who knew the person is still alive to take offence.

Without any help from me, you have come In and trashed each and every one of the threads with negative comments that Insult and belittle the belated.

Snooze also quite rightly pointed out on the Rathband thread, that the same thing always happens on 9/11 threads.

In fact I remember approx 2 years ago when Shellbelle posted a memorial thread on the anniversary of 9/11. True to form, In you came slating Bush, America and 9/11. I remember writing a post In that thread asking you not to do this on the anniversary of al days yet you continued to compound Insult after Insult dispite Kathy Ellen and Shellbelle getting quite upset.

Your behaviour suggests two options.

One, you carry out this behaviour with malice and get off on Insulting members, or two, you live In Spotworld In blind Ignorance ... Either way, I suggest therepy.

Though while you're there - when we were at the first London meet didn't the group see Lindow Man at the British Museum, or is that something I've imagined? He was a Famous Mummified Body too.

Actually, the photo of Lenin in the Whitney Houston thread was meant to fan the flames, this one was because the site I found the photo on was interesting and I thought someone might enjoy seeing it.

The reason I asked is that I can't reliably recall whether we did or not. That visit on that day may or may not have included getting to that display cabinet but my recollection isn't trustworthy. Other visits with other people on other days definitely have.
