Letter from grandma. ( bit of humour.)

Post by kingsley1929 »

The other day i went to a local Christian bookshop and saw a " Honk if you love Jesus" bumper sticker. I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance followed by a thunderous prayer meeting, so I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.

Boy! am I glad I did! What an uplifting experience that followed. I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is...I didn't notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked , i'd never noticed that the light had changed. I found that LOTS of people love Jesus! Why, while I was sitting there, a man behind started honking like crazy, then he leaned out of window and screamed " For the love of God! go! go! Jesus Christ ....go!"

What an exuberant cheer leader he was for Jesus! Everyone started honking. I just leaned out of my window and started waving and smiling at all of these loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the celebration.

There must have been a man from the Gold Coast back there because I heard him yelling something about a " sunny beach". I saw another man waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my teen aged grandson in the backseat what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something. Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii so I leaned out of the window and gave the good luck sign back. My grand son burst out laughing..why, even he was enjoying this religious experience.

A couple of people were so caught up with in the joy of the moment they got out of there cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or asked what church I attended, but this was when I noticed that the light had changed. So I waved to all my sisters and brothers, grinned and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again! I felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared, so I slowed the car down, leaned out of the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away.

Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks.

Love Grandma.

What's even funnier is they probably were all coming form the same prayer meeting. :) Call it a hasty generalization, but I find most Christians to be the most judgemental, unforgiving, and unreasoned people I've ever met. Now I know that might make some folks mad, but I tell you before their Christian God, I truly mean what I say. To be fair, I've actually met one or two that surprised me with an eclectic mindset in regard the views of others; but it's usually presented in a condescending way, as if to say, I know that my faith is better, but someday you may be like me, so I'll be patient with your ignorance for now! Don't you just hate when Christians take a condescending approach to others? Like a precocious child, they look upon the spiritual worth of others as far less than their own because their unreasoned fable carries their mind to a lofty sense of self.

Honestly I would be embarrassed to call myself a Christian. If I said to you, do you want to join a very old club I'm in? but then I tell you that in the past this club's spiritual leaders killed thousand upon thousands of those that disagreed with their version of peace, love and charity. However, I tell you truthfully that they have grown so much in the last couple hundred years and no longer commit murder. Also, they do have hundreds--thousands?--of members that have molested children, but they don't publicly condone such practices. In addition, this club has as its foundation a Jesus tale so unbelievable that it defies any hope of verification or validation as being anything more than a fantastic fable. Nevertheless they tell anyone who will listen, that if you believe in this incredible tale you can be forgiven of your sins and live forever and ever with the unprovable God in eternal Bliss! Not only that, this "club" does charitable work with the money that we and others give them; that is, if they have any left over after the billions they will have spent on defending their reputation from countless lawsuits involving heinous crimes against children that many of their spiritual "teachers" may or may not have committed.

Now tell me, would you have no compunction about joining such a club?

Anyone that may be offended by this post: remind youself that what I said is based on truth.

Are you sure, Oscar? I honk my horn...well actually I rarely do but if I did I would say I was honking my horn.

Ah, a slang word, I hadn't heard it used that way.
